Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Shama Constituency in the Western Region seem to have found an antidote to reclaim the constituency parliamentary seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they root for Samuel Erickson Abakah in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Mr. Abakah, a legal practitioner, who would be seeking to run on the ticket of the party in 2016 after two unsuccessful attempts at the primaries level, is considered as the most formidable aspirant capable of reclaiming the seat from the NDC.

Party faithfuls believe that not only Mr. Abakah’s competence, altruism and popularity makes him the best choice for the party but also the commitment he had exhibited towards the party over the years.

Besides, Mr. Abakah hails from Abuesi and resides at Aboadze and that these two communities which have swing voting pattern, are recorded to have more than a quarter of the constituency’s entire voting population.

That, some party members believe, makes his candidature the best strategic option available to the party in the constituency to reclaim the seat.

The Shama constituency seat had been occupied by the NPP until it lost it to the NDC in 2008.

Party members are therefore seeking to end the long drought of unsuccessful attempts to reclaim the seat since 2008.

Mr. Abakah who spoke in an interview with The New Crusading GUIDE was therefore confident that electing him as the candidate would be the magic wand to end the drought.

He said he was born and bred in the constituency and have identified himself with the masses of the area.

“I have a big heart for the suffering masses and I always sympathize with them”, he said, adding that, as a legal practitioner who has such compassion for his people, he could better articulate their concerns.

He said humility and approachability were his hallmark and that many delegates were considering these virtues to elect him as candidate.

On his campaign, he said it had been successful so far and that he was optimistic of his chances, adding that he has much confidence in the delegates.

“The grounds look favourable and I anticipate a landslide victory”, he stated.

Even as ordinary party member, Mr. Abakah has been able to introduce a scholarship scheme for his constituents, offered free legal services and assisted many constituents financially.

Many party members are therefore looking forward to his election on June 13 but delegates would have to decide between him and one Ato Panford.
