Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah - the former Joy FM presenter who won the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary for the Ofoase Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region – has stated that he will work to increase the number of NPP votes in the constituency.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy FM after provisional results indicated that he had won, Mr Oppong-Nkrumah said he would work with the contestants he defeated to double NPP votes in Ofoase Ayirebi.

Describing it as “a major task”, he said that he will help deliver party flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, to the Flagstaff House in 2016 in place of President John Mahama.

Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah won the constituency with 219 votes, beating John Obiri Yeboah and Bright Asamoah Acquah who had 145 and 54 votes respectively.

The former journalist, who said he was “elated, relieved and humbled” by his victory, expressed gratitude to the people of Ofoase Oyirebi for having faith in him.

He said he recognized that the people have high expectations of him, stressing that he would not disappoint them.
