A Group of youth calling itself “Concerned National Democratic Congress (NDC) foot soldiers from the Eastern Region have kicked against the plan by the party executives to share the number of parliamentary seats and Presidential votes equally with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The group numbering over two thousand led by one Nana Agyei from the Abetifi constituency in the Kwahu area says if the party leaders continue to neglect them as they are doing now, their plan will remain on the drawing board since they would not get any grassroots support to achieve that aim.

“We have been doing all the grassroots work for the party to appreciate votes in the Eastern Region, but as soon as elections are over, we are not known by our leaders again. We are only remembered when there is an election,” the group revealed.

The Eastern Region is known to be the stronghold of the NPP which has 26 parliamentary seats out of the 33 seats in the region with the NDC having only 7 seats.

Their leader, Nana Agyei said they could no longer work on an empty stomach for only their leaders to enjoy, hence, their resolve not to assist the party to maximize votes in the Eastern Region.

According to Nana Agyei, the group had made their concerns known to the party leaders on the need to co-operate and encourage foot soldiers to enable them work assiduously for the party in the coming election and beyond, but their plea had been taken to the cleaners, hence, their resolve to sit on the fence.

To him, without the support of the foot soldiers, the Agenda 50-50 would be a mirage.

The Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, Mark Oliver Kevor has however stated on a number of platforms that, the party meant what they had planned to achieve and therefore appealed to the foot soldiers to exercise restraint to enable the party to achieve its aim.

He said the party leaders in the region were aware of the concerns of the foot soldiers and would do everything to address them.
