Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has warned contractors working on the 50 community day Senior High Schools to sit up or risk their contracts being abrogated.

He expressed dissatisfaction with work done so far on the schools, which were promised by President Mahama during the 2012 elections.

The Minister issued the warning at a ceremony to hand over a site for construction of a Community Day Senior High School at Adaklu Tsrefe in the Volta region.

“This is a presidential priority project so we do not take excuses, we do not suffer laziness and excuses about road networks, workers, water delivery, electricity supply and all of that.

“We do not accept any excuse, you have to be on time and you must be punctual. We are always monitoring if you do not follow the laid down schedule of work, we are going to send you warning letters then we will terminate the contract then award it to another contractor”, he said.

The traditional authorities in Adaklu gave the government 25 acres of land for the construction of the school.

The facility is expected to include a four story structure accommodating 24 classrooms, a headmaster's bungalow, and 11 teachers' bungalows, among others.

Work on the project is expected to be completed after 18 months and is estimated to cost about 11 million cedis.

Meanwhile, stakeholders in the education sector have been urged to teach school children to avoid corruption.

The caution is coming from District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sangnaregu in the Northern region in the wake of West African Examinations Council’s cancellation of some exam papers.

The DCE, Alhassan Mohammed Sorugudoo, believes the cancellation of the papers shows some teachers have been exposing students to examination malpractices.
