The upcoming parliamentary primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) which is expected to be held across the country on November 7, 2015, has created a lot of problems for majority of the sitting NDC Members of Parliament (MP) especially Mr. Alfred Agbesi the incumbent for Ashaiman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
Hon. Agbesi’s constituency has attracted a lot of attention as five other persons have filed their nominations to contest against the three term legislator.
The rest of the other five contestants are Ernest Nogbey, Tony Afenyo, Numo Adinortey Addison, Emmanuel Max-Voy and Abass Osabutey.
The New Crusading GUIDE can confirm that Mr. Alfred Agbesi, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, is already reeling under pressure, judging from the fact that he appears to be overwhelmed by the presence of the number of persons contesting for his seat.
It’s even more worrisome for Mr. Agbesi as his leading contender Ernest Norgbey appeared on the first position during the balloting.
Mr. Ernest Norgbey who many delegates are rooting for in an interview with this paper said his position on the ballot paper as number one is an indication that he will emerge victorious.
He commended the national executive of the NDC for the bold decision of expanding the Electoral College, saying it is a true bottom-up approach of selecting leaders.
According to Norgbey, his aim is to better the course of his constituents and help meet the aspirational needs of Ashaiman.
“Besides poverty and underdevelopment, there are too many disgruntled members who have vowed to vote ‘skirt and blouse’; others too say they won’t turn up at all. I feel worried when I hear these complaints”, he stated.
As a concerned member, he continued “I feel touched, and this has compelled me to enter the race to bring back hope which is very critical”.
Asked whether he should wait to enter parliament before helping his constituents, Norgbey responded that, he has been helping the people from his personal resources since he relocated to the constituency, adding however that, as an individual he could not do much, hence fighting to enter parliament to help push for legislations that would better the lot of his people.
He urged his numerous followers to avoid violence ahead of the contest. He also called on all the eligible voters not to be intimidated by anybody but go out there and vote massively for him as the number one.
