New Patriotic Party polling executives from three stations in the Ablekuma West Constituency have submitted separate petitions to the party’s national officials calling for the immediate conduct of elections in their areas to calm tension.
The petitioners from - Shiabu, Opetekwe and Gbebu electoral areas - made the presentation on Wednesday and it was received by a national executive officer behind closed doors.
The recipient who pleaded anonymity told the media the issue was a ‘family matter’ which the party would want to deal internally, but expressed confidence that the party’s leadership would resolve outstanding issues in the constituencies devoid of parliamentary aspirants before by 2016.
Mr Joseph Otchere, a Polling Executive of Shiabu Electoral Area, told the media that countless efforts made by them since 2013 to get their issues relating to election of officers addressed proved futile.
He said in the petition made available to the media that they had “bought polling station executive nomination forms, filled them and returned them to the constituency organiser.”
“On October 16, 2013, we waited at our various polling stations from morning to evening, but no officer came to conduct any elections, yet some people are going round the electoral area claiming to be polling station executives,” he stated.
“We have, therefore, decided to add our voice to the numerous calls for re-run of the election for polling stations executives.”
