Divine Nkrumah of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) says petition by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a new voters' register is a "waste of time and tax payer's money".
The PPP National Youth Organizer told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" that the NPP's prescription will not solve the electoral challenges in the country.
“PPP agree that we need a new voters’ register but if we should go by NPP’s prescription, it is going to be a waste of time and waste of tax payer’s money. Because at the end of day, the issues that they have raised about bloated register and the issues they’ve raised for us to get a credible voters’ register cannot be solved using the current modalities.”
To him, the way forward is for the government to fortify the National Identification Authority.
Divine Nkrumah explained that what Ghana needs is an adequate database which can only be achieved by the introduction of Identity Cards (ID Cards).
The ID Cards, he espoused, is the position of the PPP on the electoral issues confronting the nation.
He further noted that the NPP is calling for a new voters' register to advance their course but not seek the interest of Ghanaians.
