Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby has described the suspension of the National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a coup d’état.
In his view, the people mandated to oust Paul Afoko from office are the delegates who gave him the mandate not a small of disgruntled persons in the NPP.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) in a unanimous decision has suspended the National Chairman following a recommendation by the National Council of Elders of the party. This was after some party members petitioned them over the conduct of Mr. Afoko which they deemed detrimental to the party’s victory in the 2016 general elections.
This has generated a lot of controversy with supporters of the National Chairman insisting that the NEC meeting is unconstitutional.
But speaking on Asempa FM Friday, Dr. Wereko-Brobby said members of NEC who took the decision have done a grave disservice to their flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to him, a party seeking to win power has shot itself by the decision just months to the crucial 2016 general elections.
“Is NEC behind or against Akufo-Addo? Today is a poor day for NPP” he bemoaned. Tarzan who is also serving a two-year ban for misconduct said he is saddened by the developments in the NPP.
He indicated that the suspension of Paul Afoko will fuel the perception that the NPP is indeed an Akan party.
Dr. Wereko-Brobby expressed disappointment in the NPP which most Ghanaians look up to save them from the incompetent Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC). “I weep for Ghana because the 2016 elections will be between chaos versus incompetence” he stated.
Tarzan called on Nana Akufo-Addo to show leadership and put the house in order ahead of the 2016 elections.
