The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Adjaho, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament who are seeking re-election to Parliament not to allow their preparation ahead of their primaries to affect their duties in Parliament.

While wishing the members well in the primaries, Mr. Adjaho said the members had duties to discharge in the House, and entreated them not to abdicate those duties.

He said the session would be very hectic and entreated the members to endeavor to participate in all parliamentary business, while they campaigned ahead of the primaries.

The House is expected to consider the 2016 budget statement and financial policy of the government, the appropriation bill well as 25 other bills currently at the Table Office for presentation.

The bills include the Ghana School of Law Bill, Legal Service Bill, Road Safety Bill, Tax Administration Bill, and the Electronic Communication Bill.

There are also about 13 bills currently under consideration by the various committees of the House.

They include the Companies Bill, 2013, the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Bill, Whistle Blower (Amendment) Bill, 2015, Ghana AIDS Commission Bill, and the Public Procurement (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

Bills currently at the consideration stage include the Conduct of Public Officers Bill, 2013, Intestate Succession Bill, 2013, and Right to Information Bill, 2014.

Twenty five other instruments would be presented at the meeting, five instruments at the committee level and 40 papers to be presented.

Nine motions have been tabled for debate and 88 others referrals of bills at the committees.

The House kick-started its activities for the third meeting yesterday with the presentation of a protocol between the government and Swiss Confederation amending the convention of 23rd July 2008 between the two countries for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income on capital and on capital gains and its protocol.

Another paper, that is the interconnection of the Ghana Gas Transmission System with the West African Gas Pipeline to enable reverse flow of gas from Aboadze to Tema was also presented to the House while the Narcotic Control Commission Bill, 2015 went through its First Reading.
