Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwamena Duncan has hit back at the Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah over government's press release on the former's party leader's comments regarding the Gitmo detainees.

Nana Addo, commenting on the Gitmo detainees' transfer to Ghana, accused the government of contravening Section 35 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2008 (Act 762).

Additionally, Nana Addo said the President's failure to consult with major stakeholders in the country to alleviate the fears of Ghanaians has rather resulted in heightened tensions.

But a statement issued on Tuesday by Dr. Edward Omane Boamah debunked the claims by the Nana Addo, saying "We note that Mr. Akufo-Addo did not provide any proof of the “reasonable grounds” on which he claims the two ex-detainees should have been denied entry into Ghana. It would appear that he merely channelled claims in sections of the media- that an allegedly leaked 2007 report classifies the two detainees as “terrorists.

Responding to the statement by the Communications Minister, Kwamena Duncan described him as an "upstart".

So, to him, Dr. Omane Boamah is showing acts of arrogance because he "may not have started from scratch and that just from the beginning; he got that luck and jumped onto the top."

I can excuse upstarts who have been lucky to find their feet in oversized shoes. And that’s exactly what Omane Boamah is doing. He is an upstart…As a Communications Minister, you have failed woefully to manage this Gitmo terrorists’ issue.

Despite countless attempts by host Kwami Sefa Kayi for the NPP guru to be moderate in his speech, Kwamena Duncan refused to retract his description of the Communications Director.
