2012 Progressive People’s Party (PPP) flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has been described as a politician who lacks conviction and only sought to use the Convention People’s Party (CPP) as a vehicle to enrich himself.

A CPP flagbearer aspirant, Joseph Agyapong made these remarks on Adom TV’s Pampaso Programme with Kofi Adomah on Tuesday while reacting to claims that the party founded by Dr Kwame Nkrumah has never been able to perform well since the astute businessman walked out of the party.

“Let me tell you today, Kwesi Nduom is not a politician, he is not in politics to help build Ghana, he came to build his businesses and sought to use the CPP as the vehicle for this agenda…,” he said.

The Groupe Nduom President broke away from the CPP in 2012 to form the PPP after disagreements with certain persons in the party including Nkrumah’s daughter, Samia Yaaba Nkrumah.

This was after he contested for President on the ticket of the CPP in the 2008 elections in which the CPP obtained 1.32% of valid votes cast to place third.

In the 2012 elections, the PPP beat the CPP to place third.

These statistics notwithstanding, Joseph Agyapong maintained that he still considers Dr Nduom as someone who failed in the 2008 elections, adding that he is convinced Abu Sakara Foster, who was the CPP flagbearer in 2012, would have performed better if he had the same resources at his disposal as Nduom had in 2008.

He further claimed that Dr Nduom’s excuse for leaving the CPP betrays his motive of enriching himself at the expense of the CPP and the country’s future.

“How can you allow a small girl to instruct you to stop your nonsense and because of that you say you are quitting the execution of something you believe in…successful people never quit…we disagree to agree but you don’t want anyone to disagree with you and you want to be part of a political party…?,” he quizzed.

On claims that the PPP has come to stay and replace the CPP as a third force in Ghana’s politics, Joseph Agyapong said the resources at the disposal of Nduom should make him do more than he is doing.

He added that the CPP under the chairmanship of Prof Edmund Delle is poised not only to become the third force but to wrestle power in the 2016 elections.

But the claims of the CPP flagbearer contender have been challenged by a member of the PPP Communications team, Charles Owusu.

Calling into the show, Charles Owusu said the claims were "neither here nor there" adding that ‘everyone can attest to the accomplishments of Dr Nduom nationwide.

“Comparing Agyapong to Dr Nduom is like child abuse…Nduom is now out of the CPP and there is no way he would come back to be a card-bearing member of the CPP again so he (Agyapong) should concentrate on campaigning to make his party better and stop talking about Nduom…,” he said.
