Prior to President Mahama’s decision to maintain Vice President Amissah-Arthur as his running mate in 2016, some groups within the National Democratic Congress clamored for a change in partnership and came up with a tall list of candidates they believe could have enhanced their chance of winning this years’ election.

None of the suggestions came to fruition and among the group that shot up was the Volta Youth for Development.

They wanted the president to settle on the Speaker of Parliament, Doe Adjaho, as his running mate for the 2016 elections.

In a statement signed by Mr. Prosper Fofo Ndekor and two others in 26th November, 2015, the Volta Youth for Development revealed that their research had shown that the NDC will lose votes drastically if President Mahama settles on Mr. Amissah-Arthur for the second time.

Months have passed since the saga erupted but a member of the NDC in the Volta Region by name Togbe Akamla IV has revealed that had it not been for the timely intervention of some sub chiefs in the region, members of the Volta Youth for Development would have carried out their intended motive of demonstrating against the vice president when he recently visited the region for a retreat with the president and some ministers.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com Togbe Akamla IV revealed that some youth from Keta, Akachi and Ho were teaming up to make it known to the party that they still needed a change and wanted someone from the Volta region to be selected as vice.

Together with other elders and members of the NDC in the community, Togbe Akamla IV disclosed that they convinced the youth to back down and accept the decision taken by President Mahama.

It could be well remembered that the approach adopted by the Volta Youth for Development triggered a counteraction from another group known as the Cape Coast Youth Development Association; who cautioned their rivalry to desist from unwarranted attacks on the vice-president.

In a statement signed by the group they warned that “we will never sit down for anyone to attack and discredit the Vice-President who is from Cape Coast. We would at this point caution the Volta Youth for Development and Hannah Tetteh’s group to desist from unwarranted attacks on the Vice-President”.
