Kofi Adams has warned Ghanaians about scammers using politicians' names and photos on social media to dupe them.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Kofi Adams told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that some people have created Facebook accounts bearing his name and using it to ask for monetary favours from innocent Ghanaians.

He recounted a situation where his colleague had been duped by a fraudster via social media, particularly Facebook, claiming the colleague believed he was negotiating with him (Kofi Adams).

Though he wondered why the colleague stooped for the fraudster, he however could not blame him because of the cunning approach that was adopted by the fraudster to extort money from him.

He therefore has forewarned the public to be wary of the actions of fraudsters and scammers, noting that he in particular does not transact business through Facebook.

Some fraudsters and scammers have created Facebook accounts using our names and pictures, to extort money from people in the name of all kinds of things. Nobody does business on Facebook. When someone approaches you through Facebook to pay money on his or her behalf, gives you phone number and name’; don’t do it. It’s fake. Unless you know the person or meet the person face-to-face,” he said.
