Some branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ningo Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, have threatened to go to court if the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) fails to investigate and address a petition brought before it.

Spokesperson for the coalition of branch executives in the constituency, Okoe Mensah at a press conference said they had petitioned the party to complain about incidents that occurred before, during and after the primary that saw Sam George elected as the parliamentary candidate for the area on November 22, 2015.

Mr. Mensah noted that although the Regional Executives have suspended Mr. Sam George for alleged misconduct, the NEC is yet to uphold the decision.

This he said is creating problems within the constituency since Mr. Sam George is issuing threats against all executives in the constituency.

“We are appealing to the National Executive Committee of our great Party to have the elections held at Ningo Prampram Constituency investigated thoroughly, and if the allegations against Samuel Nartey George are proven, annul the results of the elections and punish him severely for perpetuating such electoral fraud in his bid to short-change the will of the people of Ningo Prampram Constituency and bring the NDC Party into disrepute.”

Mr Mensah said after the November 22 election, several electoral malfeasance have been recorded and a compilation of the findings have been made available to both the regional and the national executives for redress; but is yet to hear from the national leadership.

He noted that if the party fails to act on the petition brought before it,not only will they go to court but the party is likely to lose both the presidential and parliamentary votes in the constituency.

“We are surprised at the total silence on the part of the National Executives Committee of the NDC in connection with the petitions referred to them. We wish to use this occasion to reiterate the concerns we have been making all this while, and to call for immediate action from the Party’s NEC or else the blame themselves for anything untoward which has the potential of making the NDC very unpopular in the coming November 7 elections,” he added.

Some branch executives who were present at the press conference also appealed to the party to as a matter of urgency address their concerns raised in the petition to avoid any problems in the constituency in the near future.

Mr Mensah in the company of some other branch executives presented their petition to the Constituency Chairman, Jacob Lartey Ayin.

On his part, he called for calm among the members and promised to forward their grievances to the national executives for redress.
