The Upper East Regional representative of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council, Rockson Bukari, has cautioned former spokesperson of ex President Kufour, Andrew Awuni against running down the party.
The NPP founding member said Andrew Awuni’s utterances are bringing the name of John Kufuor into dispute. Mr. Bukari was apparently angered by comments made by Andrew Awuni on Accra based Metro TV on Wednesday.
In a Citi News interview, the National Council representative said Andrew Awuni has no moral right to speak evil about the party and attack the integrity of its flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo .
He further warned him to refrain from abusive commentary on the presidential candidate of the party and desist from making ignorant statements about internal party matters or incur their wrath.
“It is unfortunate that Andrew Awuni will be on Metro TV to talk about NPP, that there are some elders in the party who shouldn’t have petitioned, telling us that if the party doesn’t put their heads together, we can’t go anywhere because there are some cases. If people have cases they should go to court” he argued.
“He should find out whether he is an asset or liability in the party. Those who are now making noise today have benefited from the party and they can say anything about the party, running the party down and bringing the name of Mr. John Kufour into public disrepute, he should be very careful,” he warned.
He questioned Mr. Awuni’s loyalty and support to the party.
“Nana Addo has contributed immensely to the NPP. what is Awuni’s own contribution to the party? what has he done for the party in his own hometown Bongo? If Andrew Awuni wants to leave the NPP, he should do that in peace and he should not destroy the party because he is too small to destroy the NPP”, Bukari stated.
Mr. Bukari said Mr. Awuni should “shut up or resign” from the party if he is not in support of the party’s quest to instill discipline.
“Andrew Awuni has disappointed members of the party in the Upper East Region and the entire party as a whole, so if he doesn’t want what is happening in the party, he should leave the party and go to where he feels he can work for them to win power.”
Mr.Bukari urged all party members to disregard Awuni’s comments and work hard for victory come 2016.
Mr Andrew Awuni, who is considered to be against the perceived Nana Addo faction in the NPP, has in recent times criticized the party over its internal wrangling that led to the suspension of former Chairman Paul Afoko, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, and former 2nd Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe.
