A youth group of the National Democratic (NDC), calling itself John Mahama Ambassadors, have demanded for dissolution of the Ghana Ports and Habours Authority (GPHA) Board and immediate resignation of the board Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
“Following his abuse of office and the palpable neglect of the principles of social democracy, which are the guiding lights of our great NDC, we members of the JM Ambassadors, are calling for the immediate resignation of Mr. Ampofo, who is the chairman of the board of directors of the GPHA,” the national coordinator of JM Ambassadors, Alhaji Alhassan Galadima, stated in a statement.
According to the statement, which was copied to Today in Accra yesterday, ever since he was appointed to his current position, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo has neglected his office to champion the interest of every Ghanaian.
Instead, the group noted that he has systematically implemented a witch-hunting agenda to frustrate persons who have pursued their legitimate businesses long before he was appointed.
“This is contrary to the character of our hardworking president, who is committed to, and actually making Ghana a prosperous nation for all Ghanaians, irrespective of political, ethnic or religious affiliations as seen by all during his current State of the Nation Address to Parliament. It’s clear that he wanted to frustrate the president’s “Father for all Agenda,” it noted.
The statement stressed that “We cannot allow selfish people like Mr. Ofosu Ampofo to derail the efforts of the collective family of the NDC to attain a resounding victory in the November general elections through his vindictive attitude which is affecting our membership base. He woefully lost the Tema West MP election and truly not the man of the people.”
It noted that “over the last few months we are aware that he has refused to give Odart Stevedoring Company Ltd., the space to carry out their businesses by refusing to renew the company’s license and totally rejecting the CEO’s application for license, an official bully to Mr. Kojo Arthur’s citizenry as a Ghanaian.
According to the statement, the only reason Mr. Ampofo and his board have decided to do this is because they perceive the CEO of Odart Stevedoring Company Mr. Kojo Arthur to be connected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
That development, the statement said, was “unfortunate.”
“We can say without fear of contradiction that several of our dedicated party supporters would be out of job if the board chairman is not forced out of office and another dedicated and committed person appointed to pursue the grand vision of achieving a Better Ghana Agenda for all,” he contended.
It asserted that the interest of “our dear party [NDC] and that of mother Ghana far supersedes that of Mr. Ofosu Ampofo and “we cannot therefore sit unconcerned and allow him to spoil our party just to further his selfish parochial interest.”
The statement said it was “injustice of the highest order and morally repugnant to deny any law abiding citizens of this country the right to pursue any commercial venture to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.”
It stressed that denying “Odart Stevedoring the right to work on the basis of political differences was against the social democratic principles of our beloved party, the NDC and our dynamic president as father for all.”
