The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) says it does not own the Mahindra pickup vehicles which have been branded with President John Mahama’s image to facilitate the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party’s campaign ahead of the November general elections.
There have been reports in the media that claim over fifty (50) pickup vehicles belonging to the Commission have been re-branded to support the NDC’s campaign for the impending examination which promises to be keenly contested especially between the NDC and the largest opposition NPP.
The pictures of the vehicles have gone viral on social media showing at least 50 Mahindra 4×4 vehicles being sprayed in NDC colours at a mechanic shop on the Spintex Road.
Last week the Managing Director of a quarry company Marble and Granite, Dr. Ayo Ani was picked up by operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for allegedly circulating pictures of the vehicles on Social media.
However speaking to Joy News, Deputy Chairman of the NCCE in-charge of Operations, Samuel Akuamoah stated that the Commission has absolutely no connection with the said vehicles.
“We don’t own them; we don’t know anything about the vehicles. We have never owned one before, we have nothing like Mahindra in the fleet vehicles we ride countrywide. We have never had the history of buying one. Once they are physical objects sitting down somewhere they can be traced to an owner”.
He said the NCCE has some fleet of vehicles it could mobilize for an effective work ahead of the general elections in November, but still has a gap to be bridged.
“We haven’t bought any vehicles, may be somebody wants to donate them to us and may be they have found their way somewhere else. We don’t know maybe there a kind donor somewhere who wants to give them to us. But so far as I’m concerned, as the Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of operations, I have no connection, no contract whatsoever with any organization or individual whether in Ghana here or abroad to procure Mahindra vehicles”.
