The Supreme Court has thrown out a joinder application filed by Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah to join the case to order the Electoral Commission to validate the existing electoral register.
The case was sent to the apex court by former PNC youth Organizer, Abu Ramadan. He is praying the Supreme Court to compel the EC to validate the register if it fails to grant his call for a fresh electoral roll.
But Bernard Monah who does not support his [Abu] case filed the application to argue his position.
However, the Supreme Court at hearing today Thursday April 21, 2016 rejected the application explaining that Bernard Monah lacked locus.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Abu Ramadan expressed shock at the application filed by his party Chairman.
According to him, Bernard Mornah has stated unequivocally that he does not support his case “so why does he want to join me”. The former PNC youth leader commended the Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law to ensure the right things are done. He stressed that validation is the best alternative since the register in its current state is not fit for purpose.
Referring to the report of the committee set up by the Electoral Commission to investigate calls for a new register, Abu Ramadan said the validation process is only prudent.
Meanwhile, the PNC National Chairman said though he disagrees with the rulings, he accepts the verdict in good faith. “I respect the Supreme Court but I think we had the right to join the case to also argue our case” he stressed.
Bernard Mornah said he will meet with his team of lawyers to decide the next line of action.
