THE NINGO Traditional Council in the Greater Accra Region is to hold an emergency meeting to determine the fate of the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Samuel George Nartey.

It is in connection with his alleged comment which the traditional rulers deem insulting to Nene Karnor Atiapah III, the Acting President of the Ningo Traditional Area.

Mr Sam George is likely to be banned according to the council, over his alleged comment that the Acting President and Mankralo of the traditional area is a lawless leader and that his utterances do not represent the views of his people.

The traditional council may further contemplate boycotting any event which would be undertaken by the NDC in the area.

The council described the NDC candidate’s response to comments made by Nene Atiapah III – expressing his (Nene’s) dissatisfaction about the installation of prepaid meters by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Ningo – as disrespectful which could go a long way to tarnish the image of the traditional ruler.

It would be recalled that Nene Atiapah III in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, described the ECG pre-paid meters as money-sucking equipment which would worsen the already economic hardships facing the people in his traditional area since his people do not have any meaningful jobs, and therefore wanted the post-paid meters not to be substituted with the pre-paid ones.

He explained, “The people in my traditional area are poor farmers and fishermen. They can hardly make ends meet and so if we allow ECG to come and install their prepaid meters, how would my people get money to buy credit to reload them? Because of this I boldly sacked two ECG personnel who were in my house to install a pre-paid meter.”

But Sam George appeared displeased about the view expressed by Nene Atiapah III, thereby descending heavily on him.

According to Sam George captured on tape, “Chiefs are supposed to be agents of development but basically what my uncle and Mankralo has said is to encourage people to be lawless because at the end of the day, pre-paid meters are going to be installed in this country and nobody can stand in the way of government policy. If you have a chief who will tell you to flout government policy, I don’t think that is the way chiefs are supposed to behave and I disagree with my chief on this.

“What he said does not represent the views of the entire people of the Ningo Traditional Area; it is his personal view and he is entitled to it.”

The above statement by Sam George apparently triggered the anger of the elders and chiefs of the tradition council, who are contemplating summoning Sam George before the council to explain his ‘unsavory comments’ against Nene Atiapah III.

Nene Atiapah, in another interview with DAILY GUIDE, said elders of the traditional council were extremely furious about the ‘reckless comment’ made by Sam George.

He expressed surprise that the presidential staffer, who is yet to be voted as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, could make such an outrageous statement against him.

According to him, Sam George will be summoned after elders of the council had met to investigate the comment made by the son of the soil.

“We are going to have an emergency meeting and he will be invited afterwards to respond to it. I am the leader of the people therefore I speak for my people. I can only advise Sam George to be silent because he is nobody.” he stated.
