The Chairperson of the Electoral Commssion (EC), Charlotte Osei has justified the commission’s choice of a new logo.
According to her, the EC is happy with the choice it has made as the logo reminds the commission of the values that it wants to bring into its work and where it is going as an entity.
The news of a new logo for the EC was greeted with huge backlash by a large section of Ghanaians who questioned the need for the change in logo.
Others were of the view that the new logo is an occultic symbol which has a long historical pagan ties.
However speaking at the EC’s launch of its Five-Year Development Plan in Accra Tuesday, the EC boss took time to explain what the symbol stands for.
She noted that “The circle represents unity; singular and unified in its purpose – OUR DEMOCRACY. The blue of the circle represents the Stability and Independence of the Commission. The inward moving arrows reflect all the people of Ghana EQUALLY coming together for the common purpose – the right to select their political leadership. The use of the red, gold and green represents our country Ghana. The Whole identity represents a unified common purpose and vision and DEMONSTRATES our INDEPENDENCE as an institution.”
