The Electoral Commission has opened nominations effective today, September 13, 2016 for registered political parties and independent candidates to file their nominations to contest the December 7, polls.
Deputy Director in charge of Public Affairs of the EC, Yussif Alhassan Ayuba, has indicated the filing of the nomination forms will be done on September 29 and 30.
Presidential candidates of the various political parties are expected to pay GHC50,000 to enable them file their nominations to contest in the polls, while the filing fee for parliamentary candidates has been pegged at GHC10,000.
Majority of the parties, especially the smaller ones have protested the figure, claiming it’s a ploy to disqualify them from contesting in the upcoming December 7 elections, but the EC has rejected that claim.
The EC has indicated that it will meet over the concerns expressed by the various parties.
