The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has called off the Evening Encounter with the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
A statement from the IEA said, the decision to call off the Evening Encounter was due to the unavailability of the candidate. Nana Akufo-Addo’s encounter have been postponed on two occasions.
The party in their response to the earlier postponements said, they wanted the party to launch its manifesto before their candidate will have his encounter.
But the IEA in the statement said: ''We regret to inform the general public and our invited guests that the IEA Evening Encounter with the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Honorable Akufo-Addo which was postponed until further notice has now officially called off by the institute, the IEA.
This decision has become necessary due to the unavailability of the NPP's candidate to avail himself to take his turn at the Evening Encounter and has nothing to do with IEA's preparedness.
In order to clear to clear any doubts about our readiness for this exercise, we deemed it fit and proper to inform the general public of this decision, that the IEA did everything possible to host all candidates who signed up for the Evening Encounter,'' the statement signed Jane Mensa, Executive Director of IEA stated.
