New trainee nurses who are yet to be put on the students loan scheme will also be put on the cancelled nurses allowance scheme, President John Mahama has announced.
According to him, the technical committee which advised the government on the allowance scheme has suggested the placement of the trainees on allowance instead of a loan scheme. Addressing some trainee nurses as part of his campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo region, the President said his government is deeply concerned about the welfare of Ghanaians and will not renege on their promises.
“The committee recommended that since we are yet to amend the law to put our nursing and midwifery students on the students loan scheme, we should also put them on the allowance,” Mr. Mahama announced.
The allowances were withdrawn a few years back after government complained they limited intake by nursing training institutions. It was further argued that it was unfair for nursing and teacher trainees to receive allowances when other tertiary students didn’t enjoy same.
Since the withdrawal, the government has been praising itself for taking a prudent decision which resulted in an exponential growth in enrollment figures at nursing and teacher training schools across the country, thereby expanding access nursing and teacher training.
The opposition New Patriotic Party has, however, insisted that the decision is senseless and imposed needless hardships on students and parents.

AND SOME F---O---O---L----S WILL BELIEVE THIS CONMAN.
What does this Government take Ghanaians for? My fellow Ghanaians shine your eyes before is too late!!!
This is funny. Are they trying to deceive the nurses? May be after the elections they will come to give reasons why they cannot pay the allowances. So NURSES what do you want? The NPP promise or NDC deceit?
Our president is not faithful, why this sudden change of mind? Is it because the grounds are not favourable to him? Ghanaians are now decerning. Indecisive president is time for you to leave the presidency coming December 7th. We are not kids.
THE MIRAGE ALLOWANCE FOR STUDENT NURSES - REPETITION OF 2012 DECEPTION Save Ghana Now! My message to student nurses and midwives... Don't be deceived with the 2 months intra-election enjoyment and suffer for 3years +months post-election period. I am surprised why His Excellency President Mahama could be bold enough to say "they are re-installing the allowance..." knowing very well that this GHC 150 is not allowance but a means of vote buying, which will be cancelled 3 months after his victory in this 2016 election. It is unfortunate I can't call His Excellency President Mahama, a LIAR, full of DECEIPT, because he is my president, but his actions depict as such. A WORD TO THE WISE It has been years now that allowance was cancelled and school fees was hiked, making student nurses and midwives and their parents to develop HYPERTENSION. Flashback : IN 2012 , 2 months intra-election period (what is about to happen to the student nurses and midwives this October and November, 2016, happened in 2012) REPETITION OF DECEPTION IN THE NAME OF MIRRAGE ALLOWANCE WHICH APPEARS ONLY 2 MONTHS TO ELECTIONS : The NDC government paid allowance on table top to deceive student nurses and midwives. Some few months after the victory of the ndc government, the allowance was cancelled. So is the money "election allowance" or "student allowance "? I forfeited my sleep to do content analysis of an audio I have in my file. This audio contains the truth and nothing but the truth about this GHC 150 they claim is allowance. The Ministry of Health PRO, Mr Tony Goodman in his works to persuade the student nurses and midwives in the nursing and midwifery training Colleges, to accept the GHC 150 and ignore the directive of GNMTA leaders, helped me to access this audio for analysis. I believe the audio is for public consumption since it comes from the PRO of a ministry. The Audio Content : "MOH PRO - ...There will be no bond for the GHC 150. Nobody says you should not sign for the GHC 150, listen to SRC executives than your GNMTA LEADERS WHO ARE NOT IN SCHOOL... students- what happens to us after completion? Moh pro - you apply and you are posted. (note that we have thousands of your seniors unemployed) Moh pro - trainees contribute to 40 per cent healthcare and 40 percent of cancelled allowance that should be paid amounts to GHC. 120. GNMTA and all stakeholders agreed to GHC 100 and it was sent to parliament. "THIS GHC 150 IS DIFFERENT FROM ALLOWANCE", said Mr Tony Goodman. He added "this money will be paid to 34.500 student nurses and midwives across the country. Finance will decide when it will be paid. GHC 150 * 3 months /semester = GHC 600. I want to advice you to listen to yourself, don't be listening to others". "You remember that President went on tour at Nalerugu and recently went to Kumasi and saying they will put you on student loan. There is a proposal from committee because Students' loan is delaying..." He added, "THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED. IT IS NOT PRESIDENT OR MOH WHO WANTED TO GIVE THE MONEY TO YOU" students : Is the money going to be paid on table top? MOH PRO : that one is operationalization of it and it will be part of the letter. IT HAPPENED RECENTLY, IT WAS PAID ON TABLE TOP... students : what about those who will be completing soon? MOH PRO: those who are completing Will be part. THEY WILL CALL YOU BACK TO COME FOR YOUR MONEY. THOSE WHO WILL BE COMING TO SCHOOL WILL NOT BE PART. To be continued... Now to my content analysis and questions for this government : 1. If this GHC 150 is different from allowance as the PRO said, then what is the name of this GHC 150? why has the President made the students believe that it is reinstallation of the allowance while it is not? Is it because the cancellation of allowances is a threat to him now? 2. It was not the president or MOH who intended to give the money. Interesting, does that mean the President never planned of giving this GHC150 to the student nurses and midwives? 3. It is very interesting that PRO wanted to be smart in responding to the means of payment, but later he made reference to a similar table top payment in 2012, which deceived the students and they regretted after the 2012 election. Is the table top means of payment legal ? Is it right?. If the President claim is allowance, then it must be paid into the students' bank account, and reflect on their payslip with ID numbers. 4. If the GHC 150 will be paid to 34,500, what happens to the first years? I am glad the PRO was truthful here, by saying the first years are not part, but those who will complete will be called to come for their money. Is this logic? This justifies the fact that the GHC. 150 is a mirage allowance which will be seen in the election period and disappears after election. If it is indeed reinstalling of allowance, the first years would have been part. I am sorry for say, this is how deceptive the President of Ghana can be, but he should know that the student nurses and midwives are not robots, but they've brains to think and read meanings into actions. The government should come out with a document binding any sitting government to pay the health contribution token to the student nurses and midwives, and they should do the calculation well because 740 percent of the cancelled allowance is more than the GHC 120. The calculation was wrong. Before I end, all Presidential candidates should be ready to tell us how they will pay the allowance and the source of funding. My advise to student nurses and midwives is to take any money that will be given to them, the money is from our own tax, but when you get to the ballot box, it is you, your ballot paper and God. Remember your 3 years post election sufferings, never consider the 2 months intra election enjoyment. Vote for your future ! Revenge for your sufferings! Vote for good and effective health policies Vote for employment Spread this information to every student nurse or midwife you know. #By: Kofi Ghana, the truth is bitter like bile pigment #
