Private Legal practitioner and lawyer for Dr Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Maurice Ampaw says the Electoral Commission Boss, Mrs Charlotte Osei will face his wrath legally for disqualifying his client.

He described the EC's decision to disqualify Dr Lartey and other 12 aspirants from contesting the December 7 presidential polls as “political mass murder”.

Madam Charlotte and her team has committed mass political murder to these aspirants. This is unbelievable. How can she fail 12 of her candidates and pass only four [4]? She is a failure then. What is she doing at her post if 12 have failed under her tuition?” he quizzed.

The Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified at least twelve persons that sought to contest the December 7th presidential elections on Monday.

The EC Boss at a press conference on Monday disqualified Mr Ayariga and 11 other presidential nominees and put one on hold, pending the determination of a court challenge.

The disqualified aspirants include Dr Edward Mahama of the People's National Convention (PNC); Dr Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party (UFP); Kofi Akpaloo of the Independent People's Party (IPP); Kwabena Adjei of the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD); and Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party (PPP).

The others are: Dr Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP); Mr Richard Nixon Tetteh (United Development Systems Party); Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP); Thomas Ward-Brew of the Democratic People's Party (DPP); Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker, an independent candidate; and Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Mr Akwasi Addae Odike of the United Progressive Party's nomination is on hold pending a court case.

Mrs Osei cited filing anomalies including fraudulent signatures, absence of a required number of signatures, improper filling of nomination forms, among others, as the reasons for their disqualification.

But her clarification for disqualifying the aspirants did not go down well with self-acclaimed celebrated lawyer, Maurice Ampaw.

In an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, Lawyer Ampaw questioned if the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] and largest opposition, New Patriotic Party [NPP] documents were without errors.

My question is, based on her reason for disqualifying the 12 candidates, can she do same with the NDC or the NPP? Can she look in the face of the president [John Mahama] and disqualify him or Nana Addo? She can’t do that because they are untouchable

She can only do that to the other parties because they are not ‘strong’. EC just used technicalities to disqualify them. She did not use her common sense and equity. Common sense counts in law. I was expecting Madam Charlotte to be lenient – she is very wicked considering the expenses these aspirants have made prior to the election,” Lawyer Ampaw told host Nana Yaw Kesse.
