The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified 24 parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region from contesting this year's election.
Reports gathered by our Ashanti Regional correspondent, Isaac Owusu indicate that out of the 240 aspirants who filed their nomination on Friday, only 216 were cleared to represent their respective political parties as parliamentary candidates in the elections.
The 24 were disqualified based on the fact that they were not able to pay their filing fee (GHC 10, 000).
According to the Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, Mr Mr Serebuor Quaicoo, “when they submitted the nomination forms, 240 submitted but we were waiting for the issue about the deposits to be completed, but 24 of them did not come forward to continue with their deposits. So at the end of the day, the 24 people cannot be considered as duly nominated because they did not complete their nomination process,”
According to him, most of he disqualified applicants are independent candidates and a few from the political parties. Even though the list of disqualified aspirants is not yet out, candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention People's Party (CPP) and the Progressive People's Party (PPP) have qualified to contest in the December 7 elections.

Eduruho! Abaa y3debo takyi no y3debo baa. Some people who are ***barred word*** jubilated when other parties were disqualified becos they thought it inured to their benefit. I believe they are now seeing the danger the EC's action poses to the general election and the peace of this nation. the reasons the woman proffered against the other parties could easily be as a result of sabotage. Anybody who want others to be disqualified can bribe people who know very well they don't qualify to sign nomination forms to go ahead and sign them so that they can go ahead to disqualify the candidate. Especially if the EC is part of the sabotage plot. Sometimes I think the NPP people are not smart atall! this woman is bent on delivering the Presidency to Pres. Mahama so her every action, it doesn't matter who it goes against, should be resisted because there might be a hidden agenda which will only come out too late in the day. The Akans say that "s3 wok)to s3 ***barred word*** bi si wonua so a, k3s3 s)re fi y3nso, nna 3nnkes3 s)re firi ne so. esans3 s3 okuno wie a )b3ba woso" to wit " if you see an ***barred word*** attack your neighbour, tell the ***barred word*** to leave us alone but dont't say leave him alone, because after a successful attack on the neighbour it will come unto you". Now that some high profile members have praised the EC, what will they do if the same reasons are used to disqualify some NPP candidates?
O na please give us enough details ehh, just mentioning that they have being disqualified doesn't satisfy our curiosity
Ndc and npp candidates are all safe. They are not amongst the disqualified.
the woman doesnt superintend over Parliamentary elections vetting although she is the electoral comissioner, his core in the registration process is on the presidential. why are you guys crying foul..is it because those disqualified are from the ashanti region, why the haste, why cant you guys wait for the other regions too..
KOLOLO EC BOSS AND CHORTS PLUS JDMMMMMMMMMMMM. WAIT YOU GO SEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW
The intransigence of this woman will cause havoc in this country.
