The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Baba Jamal has come under intense pressure from his constituents over a recent claim that some chiefs in his constituency failed to make lands available for the construction of a polyclinic and a nurse training school.

Mr Jamal was reported to have told a local radio station in his constituency that all was set for the projects to have started but the chiefs of Akyem Apinamang and Akyem Kusi failed to make lands available for them. He further stated that the projects had since been taken to another region, where lands were easily provided.

But a statement issued by Obeng Danquah, a member of the Communication team of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akwatia said: “Now, as a party, we would like to ask the two chiefs involved if indeed, it is true that they could not provide lands for the two proposed projects by the incumbent MP to be built in their towns. Again, are the people of these two towns aware of the projects?”

The statement added: “To the MP, we wish to find out why the proposed projects were not sent to other towns within the constituency, where lands could possibly be made available. With a few weeks to the general elections, the failed MP has been churning out false information and lies about some projects he claimed to have carried out in the Akwatia constituency.

As the largest opposition party, we want development projects for our people and, therefore, cannot fathom why a sitting MP, who claims to have lobbying skill, could not secure lands for the projects within the constituency.

“We humbly request that the two chiefs respond to the MP's disclosure, and equally demand for further explanation from Baba Jamal as to why the projects could not be sited in other towns within the constituency.

Finally, we call upon the good people in the Akwatia constituency particularly those in Apinamang and Kusi to demand from the MP what is due them.”
