President John Dramani Mahama has opined that Nana Akufo-Addo’s running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will never be given the opportunity to lead the party "should anything happen".
"Let anything happen today and let our brother Bawumia say he is standing for president in NPP. They will never give it to him, I can assure you..." he indicated.
Addressing party supporters in Lawra as part of his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, President Mahama said: “Alhaji Aliu Mahama was vice president under the NPP government. He served faithfully under President Kufuor and, so, when eight years was up and President Kufuor was leaving, the natural order of succession is that he should have been given the opportunity to lead that party, but 17 people contested him and defeated him and that is why I say NDC is a party of opportunity because if NDC wasn’t, who am I? A boy from Bole born in Damango, who am I to stand here and call myself president of the Republic of Ghana?”
“Sometimes I feel sad when I see some of our northern brothers running around and also doing this. … They will use you and dump you. I want to live and see the day. Let anything happen today and let our brother Bawumia say he is standing for president in NPP. They will never give it to him, I can assure you. When the misfortune hit us and our father Professor Mills passed away, the constitution said the vice president should take over, I did. But then we were close to an election. If it was another party, they would have insisted that there should be a congress and in that congress I would have been contested and they would have given the leadership to somebody else,” the President added.

That is the naked truth, Mr President. The truth hurts. Bawumia is being naive and misled. Mr. President, please advise him.
jm senses danger in relation to the 2016 elections .hence, resorted to tribalism which will also not work.
Mr. president we're fed up with ur tribal politics. kindly pray to God for forgiveness n directions to rule.
Hahaha still we will vote you and your corrupt government out! We are not interested in tribal politics trick this time.
if JdM was simply 'allowed' to be president, the ndc is of all parties the most unfortunate. And by the way, I don't like the impression the president gives that a bole boy cannot be president except by someone's benevolence. Party constitutional rules must be followed, that's all. If a VP automatically becomes next president, then if he is from Bole or wherever, he becomes president. Simple.
JM paa is this campaign message?.. Tweaa. Tell us how your govt will fight corruption and fix the economy so that we can vote for you, look at what you are saying. Defeat awaits you come Dec 7.
The tribal politics is becoming too much in this country. Mr. president better tell the electorates what you have for them and refraim from embarking on divisive politics that has a potential of polarizing the country. Has any Ashanti be made a fragbearer of NDC?
NDC cant understand why a northerner must belong to the NPP.
Sometimes I feel so sad when I hear a whole President speak like this. Is it for political expediency or what. JM, I like you please. Rise above these cheap propaganda messages. Leave this for Solomon Nkansa, Kofi Adams, Koku Anyidoho and Ofosu Kwakye, okay? You like tribal politics too much. Were you not opposed during your primaries? Please rise above tribsl politics.
Mr.president, are you Allah? Well, let me tell you that if Allah has destined our brother Alhaji Bawumia to be president of Ghana, no one can stop that isha-Allah. Your comment is in bad taste Mr. President. May Allah prove you wrong by making Nana Addo president and Alhaji Bawunia after him. Ameen Yaa Allah.
