Over the weekend, while campaigning in the Upper West Region, the President of Ghana and leader of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency John Dramani Mahama opted to use very ethnocentric and divisive campaign language.
The President, while addressing party supporters in Lawra as part of his campaign tour of the Region, made comments to suggest that the New Patroitic Party (NPP) only “uses northerners” to win power and “dump” them afterwards.
The President alleged that if vice-presidential candidate of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia decides to contest as presidential candidate in the NPP, he is likely to be rejected by the party.
He then went on to cite the NPP presidential race in 2008 in which 16 other candidates contested the then vice-president of the erstwhile President Kuffour administration, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, for the Presidential candidacy of the party.
President Mahama also allged that unlike the NPP, the NDC gives everyone the chance to ascend to the high office including northerners and it is that opportunity in the NDC that has made it possible for him to become president after the demise of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills.
The MFWA considers the comments of President Mahama highly divisive and unfortunate and condemns same in no uncertain terms. As a leader of the country, President Mahama is expected to act in ways that will unite rather than divide the people of this country.
The MFWA therefore calls on the President to publicly apologise for his comments. We take this opportunity to urge other political figures to avoid the use of hate speech, ethnocentric and divisive comments in their political campaigns.

TELL KUFFOUR TO APOLOGISE AND MAHAMA WILL FOLLOW IT HYPOCRITE MFWA. WHEN IT COMES TO NDC THEN THE LAW SHOULD WORK.IS KUFFOUR NOT A SENIOR TO MAHAMA? THIS WILL BE POSITIVE FOR GHANA
Folks forgive me for making too much grammatical errors in my comments. lol I don't have the patience to proofread before posting.
This is turning into absurdity as President Kuffour over the past weekend also lifted NanaAAddo's hand in Eastern and region and said they should vote for him as he was their own son. All those complaining should have mentioned both incidents but only concerntrating on President Mahama is hypocritical.
OMG, Prez Mahama wants us to believe that late Vice Prez Aliu was robbed or short-changed? I remember, he was given same opportunity as the other 16 aspirants. Also NPP constitution does not automatically elects a vice presidents as its next flagbearer. In any case what flagbearship election did Prez Mahama participated in? Is it the one he contested with Kwaku Ananse (sole contestant). He even did not tolerate the candidature of Geoge Boateng so he had to contest with Kwaku Ananse. And the legendary Kwaku Ananse got some votes!!
Who made this Mahama guy the president of Ghana. He doesn't talk s*e*n*s*e at all
You ***barred word*** brains should continue to applaud this ethnocentric speeches. One day all Akans will come to this realisation and we will see what will become of other tribes. You should tell me with all sincerety if there is an iota of truth in this so called acclaim that NPP don't like other tribes. If we remove our political blindfolded black, green and red color which by the way are often used in funeral to mourn the dead, we will find the NPP party as a mixture of all tribes. ***barred word***! when are going to look at government performance and its impact on the people as Ghanaian and stop this deceitful tribal ***barred word*** which our president is spearheading cleverly.
This is not first time he's been talking like this, he's been campaigning this every election cycle. The man is simply a bigot and he will not stop because he is desperate
Stu-pi-d idi-ots again
HE WILL NOT
The hipocricy of the highest. Is that true? He will never apologize. You are hipocrates.
