The Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged Ghanaians to vote peacefully.
The NPP flagbearer asked voters to be tolerant at polling centres and ensure that they vote in an orderly and peaceful manner.
Akufo-Addo made the call in series of posts on Twitter as polls open across the country for about 15 million Ghanaians to vote for a president and parliamentarians.
The NPP presidential candidate, who is hoping to unseat current president John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), admonished voters not to be daunted by long queues or difficulties at polling centres.
“There might be queues, there might be hold-ups and there might be some local difficulties, but I appeal to you to be tolerant and vigilant,” he urged. Akufo-Addo appealed “passionately to” to Ghanaians “to go out and vote in an orderly and peaceful manner.”
He further urged “the Electoral Commission, security personnel and all the officials to do their work professionally.”
“Let us make sure that the process is transparent and credible. Ghana is, then, the winner,” the NPP leader concluded.
