The Electoral Commission has said its results transmitted electronically were tampered with leading to a delay in the release of presidential results of last week's election.
According to a Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, the figures kept changing anytime they were keyed into the system. They therefore had to completely abandon the electronic transmission system, she said in an interview Wednesday.
The elections management body kept the nation on tenterhooks several hours after polls ended on Wednesday without a single certified presidential results.
In the absence of the certified results came declarations of victory by the NPP and cruising to victory pronouncements by the NDC. The media also announced provisional results from polling stations and collation centres, creating a chaotic atmosphere for supporters who did not know which of the figures and declarations to believe.
After almost 12 hours after the polls, the EC chair Mrs Charlotte Osei organised a press conference claiming their electronic transmission system had been "compromised" for which reason they had to rely on manual system of transmission.
Not a single constituency results was certified to be announced at the time of the press conference.
Simultaneously, the EC's twitter handle reported that the EC website had been hacked and called on the hackers to "respect the integrity and independence of the EC."
After 72 hours the EC Chair finally declared the results of the elections and announced the opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo as president elect. Not long after the declaration, the Deputy Communications Director of the EC Yusif Ayuba denied assertion the EC system was hacked but admitted there were challenges with it. He did not exactly say what the challenges were.
His boss, a deputy Commissioner Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, has however explained the challenges in an interview on GTV Wednesday night.
"Our electronic transmission was not even coming. You key in, and the figures will change. You key in and the figures will change. Then we said no, we can't go on with this. Let's abandon it. "The good thing was that was not the primary source. So it was good for us to abandon it.
"The only problem was that it caused us some delay. We could have done that much earlier than what we did," she stated.

The IGP said, no mmedia or what not on election Day? That was strategie no one, Journallist must pay accreditation fee? no 2, Some names were missing from the voting list, no 3. Hacking of the EC IT system and so on and so forth, the battle is the lord, Bature, Pratt , Mugabee and Co, What a fiasco!
we knew those responsible. their only hope was on the EC's results bcos they know there were working hard to manipulate it. it backfired on them. u can see it all over their bodies when they did that press conference after Mac Manu called the elections. how can you claim u lost the elections due to IT failure? what has IT got to do with voting? I am not surprised at Kofi Adams confession bcos i always knew ndc can never win an election if not by manipulating the results. look at the outcome of this little vigilance by NPP. an almost 10 percentage point gap and more sits in parliament than ever before. if npp maintains or increase this vigilance momentum then i can say that we are going to be in a one party state. ndc will never come to power. they are going to devise new plans and we must be up to the task. cr1m1nals
According to Kofi Adams, the NDC IT system failed them. Were they compromising the EC system? Someone might have configured the EC system to reject any figures different from those on the Pink Sheets and Constituency Collation Summaries? Who? Or could it be the many Election Reporting Software deployed by Joy and Adom TV, Peace FM, Citi FM, Starr FM and that of the International Monitors, CODEO and Peace Council streaming live at Novotel giving results based on the now public documents? The EC found it impossible to give different figures so had to abandon its plans to rig or be met with outright condemnation! The NDC IT system failed them but IT saved Ghana from a national disaster. The battle remains the Lord's!
Were they putting in the real results? Hmmm
THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER. I THEREFORE ENCOURAGE CIVIL SOCIETY, ELECTION RELATED ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS, RELIGIOUS BODIES, NANANOM, DONOR NATIONS AND BODIES AS WELL AS THE NATIONAL SECURITY AND ALL THE THREE ARMS OF GOVERNANCE, TO SET UP AN INDEPENDENT BODY TO INVESTIGATE ABOUT THIS INCONSISTENT REPORTS ABOUT HACKING OF THE TRANSMISSION OF THE EC RESULTS. IF NPP AND THE MEDIA HAD NOT FILLED IN THE VACUUM WITH THEIR ELABORATED RESULTS, THE BLACKOUT FROM EC COULD HAVE CREATED CHAOS AND DISASTER, ESPECIALLY WHEN NDC WITHOUT BASIS FALSELY CLAIMED TO BE WINNING.
Yes that's the truth. That's how they have been so called winning. How else would a whole National Organizer or whoever he is attribute their loss tI IT. Is IT a region in Ghana or what. IT is the machinery that rigs elections for the NDC. Shame shame shame. How they are able to lift up their heads amazes me.
You see NDC thought that by re- echoing the mantra elections are won at the polling stations NPP will restrict vigilance to the polling stations. Little did they know that they were dealing with truly educated intelligent and competent people who were not trusting in their abilities but in the Most High God who bible says destroys the devices of the crafty so that his hands can not perform his enterprises, the Almighty God who puts one down and sets up another. I like the way Nana Addo calls Him, The Almighty. They put their trust in God not in the chariots of their education or strategies. Our brothers put their trust in their juju, IT and rigging machinery. Oh God we GHANAIANS can never thank you enough. Thank you for a new independence. Thank you for delivering us from the hands of the wicked and incompetent NDC. No wonder they are in such shock. They don't know what hit them. God did. God decided to hear the cry of the people who had suffered for 8 long years under their misrule. Thank you God. Have they ever seen such jubilation across the country and even overseas. For days GHANAIANS jubilated. Thank you again and again dear Lord. To you alone be all the praise and glory not to any man. Ye daaase paaa.
AFARI GYAN MAY HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TO ANSWER....WE ARE HAVING STRANGE REVELATIONS. COULD IT BE THAT ALL THIS WHILE THE EC HAS BEEN CONIVING WITH NDC TO RIG THE ELECTION? TRUST ME THE SUPREME COURT WON THE ELECTION FOR NPP PER THEIR RULING OF THE PINK SHEET.IF THE NPP HAD NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE PINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF THE PARTY AND THE PROMOTION OF CREATE,LOOT AND SHARE. IF THE NPP ARE SERIOUS,NDC CAN NEVER WIN POWER IN THE NEXT 20YEARS
Pure, undiluted lies. Go tell that to the marines. So you think Ghanaians believe these ananse stories with all the conflicting details. You guys should wait, the truth will always come out and then you will.............@#$%^^%&&****&%@!%I*
for me the best way to go about it future is to re-shuffle the whole EC staff. npp will be very be committing political suicide to leave the current commissioners at their current posts.
