The government of President Nana Akufo-Addo has set its sights on resuscitating Ghana’s collapsed national airline to win back Ghana’s reputation in air travel, Aviation Minister-designate Cecilia Abena Dapaah has disclosed.
According to her, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration will explore the possibility of bringing back into existence a national airline.
A few years ago, Ghana was operating Ghana International Airlines as a national airline. It, however, ceased operations on May 13, 2010. The airline was formed after its predecessor, Ghana Airways, was liquidated in June 2005.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, a day after being named as Minister-designate for Aviation, Mrs Dapaah said: “We had a national airline which used to be the pride of Ghana and now that we are in government, we will deliberate and look at the possibilities available and decide on how to approach a revival of the airlines.”
“We would have wished that our carrier would be like Ethiopian Airlines, which is doing well in the aviation sector. This is not something we cannot do and, so, we will have a thorough analysis of the issues relating to a national airline and look out for the way forward. It will be our pride and will give us the international exposure we need for an airline to be called a national airline.”
She added that the current government would have a second look into most of the initiatives and contracts awarded by the John Mahama administration in the aviation sector before deciding whether or not to continue with those projects.
“I believe that you need to have a second look at the programmes and be convinced that it is something you want to continue or not. You will need to find out whether the contracts and the projects were in order before you pump in additional money. And, so, our investigations will determine whether or not we should continue with the projects started by the erstwhile administration."

IT'S GOOD FOR A NATION LIKE GHANA TO HAVE A 'PROUD TO BE A GHANAIAN' AIRLINE AND RAILWAYS. COUNTRIES HAVING THESE THINGS ARE NOT IN HEAVEN NEITHER DO THEY HAVE ANGELS AS CITIZENS. WE SHOULD STRIVE FOR GREAT THINGS.I ALWAYS FEEL PITY FOR MY NATION WHEN TRAVELLING BY AIR JUST BECAUSE I CAN'T POINT TO AN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE THAT IS PROUDLY A GHANAIAN.WHAT WE NEED IS GOOD MANAGEMENT.
We don't need any Chinese planes that would killing Ghanaians. We know Npp and their shoddy deals. You go and import inferior planes that would be crashing. Let's use our delta airlines.
The only way A national airline operation will survive in Ghana is for aviation rules be strictly followed. Officials paying for fares and their excess baggage fees. Flights leaving on time and so forth.
M'am you have support!!!!!!!
TT you forgave who and who allowed who into government again?don't bring your low IQ here ok? We are talking about business and when the Ghana Airways collapsed they replaced it with Ghana international but, because ndc footsoldiers didn't have money to travel abroad ndc collapsed that Airline in 2010 what are you talking about? Let me remind you,in 2008 Nana Addo won the election in the first round only to lose in the second round to adzi wofie a oye so the other Akan regions voted for Prof. Mills to try him also not because of ndc, then ndc killed him for Mahama and Afari Djan and Atuguba imposed John mahama on us according to the court it was 5-4 which should have called for a fresh election but the NPP let GO! NOW the Akans came together again to give Nana the man date so what are you talking about? Ndc come to ste*l,destroy and kill Ghana so never again. We've learnt a lesson and will never allow you in the ndc to come back to ste*l and destroy the country. The NPP have the men and women who think of the nation and will send Ghana to a higher height. Have a good sleep in opposition.Ghanaians have got what they want and we shall succeed.
... and who collapsed the airline? Don't come a nd run your mouth. We forgave and have allowed you into government again. It does not mean you'll come and throw your weight about. Your size of ministers appointed is no comforting news at all. Information and Communication Ministries? Aba? Inner City and Zongo Development? What is this joke? What about the villages? They have been left to their fate.
This lady should not full herself with these political talk !!!!!! because running an airline is not cheap besides most of airlines make little money ; WHY DOES GHANA NEED AN AIRLINE TODAY because state finances are not very good and we need to pump in a lot of hard cash not loans because running a national airline is not easy ;THE MADAM SHOULD TAKE IT EASY AND GET HER BOOTS UNDER TABLE BEFORE MAKING PROMISES !!!!!!!
