Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini, has said it will be worrying if Minister-designate of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba is passed and sworn in as sector minister.
All the Minority legislators on Parliament’s Appointments Committee voted against her approval citing her inability to undertake her national service as well as her posture during her vetting as reasons.
However, the Committee as a whole recommended Ms Djaba and five other ministerial appointees for approval by majority decision despite Ms Djaba’s refusal to apologise for describing former President John Mahama as “evil, wicked” and “an embarrassment” to people of the regions up north.
However, Mr Suhuyini said on Friday that: “I don’t think that it is culturally acceptable to refer to another person as an evil person or wicked person without any basis. If there are bases culturally, President Mahama was not just anybody but was the embodiment of what we stand for as a country. Referring to him as evil is not criticism that is an insult”.
In terms of the abilities of Ms Djaba to successfully run the ministry, Mr Suhuyini said “that was a Minster sitting before us and assuring us that she will take care of the vulnerable and aged in society as well as women and children. This is a woman who doesn’t even seem to have a good relationship with her mother, for us, we should be worried”.
Mr Suhuyini told Joy TV on Friday, February 3 that: “If she cannot demonstrate her ability to contain her mother no matter how much of a difference exists between them, then you shouldn’t be hopeful that she will have any care of thoughts for any vulnerable person who is aged”.

According to Suhuyini, he doesn't think that it is culturally acceptable to refer to another person as an evil person or wicked person without any basis. If there are bases culturally, President Mahama was not just anybody but was the embodiment of what we stand for as a country. I DON'T KNOW THE KIND OF BASIS HE WAS EXPECTING FROM HER: WHEN UNDER THE VERY WATCH OF A PRESIDENT WHO COMES FROM THE NORTH, SEVERAL SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY WERE JUST USED TO ENRICH THE POCKETS OF A GREEDY FEW, POSSIBLY INCLUDING YOU, SUHIYINI, IF THIS IS NOT WICKEDNESS, EVIL AND EMBARRASSMENT THEN WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE? Mahama does not embody what Ghanaians stand for as a country: we don't stand for create, loot and share; we don't stand for greed and avarice; we don't stand for daylight robbery of national coffers!
this minority is a wasteman. why bring family matters into politics.. oh ghana politics is cheap #otikob3ba
The MPs in the minority who are refusing to vote for Otiku have a common trait: for some reason, they cannot stomach a woman who is vocal and confident. I guess, in their minds, maybe in their world, a woman is not supposed to be heard or seen. How dare she call your 'tin God' corrupt. 'She will see'. I am sure these are some of the things they discuss in private. Onyame ahu mo nyinaa!!
who are you to approve who is good for ghana
These minority MPs should give us break. Is the vetting about ones capacity to deliver on the job or some opinion one had expressed previously? Ghana does not revolve around John Mahama and so if they are there to do the bidding of John Mahama, 2020 is just around the corner. Their constituents will ask them about their performance. Their behaviour is so petty and infantile to say the least.
Yes it's really worrying. How can such a cheap and female dog be a minister .a woman who has sold her ppussy to all the big men in npp
Otiko is not worrying. What was worrying was Victoria Hammah, Benita Okity Duah and Nana Oye Lithur (at least she was qualified but arrogant to the core!) worrying is Sena Dansua as ambassador to Germany! Worrying is zita okaikoi as ambassador! Otiko is NOT worrying. Otiko says what she means and means what she says without apology. Ghanaians should learn from her, both men and women that you have to stand by your words! And men need to get used to the fact that there are strong women in the world who will not be bullied. Pack your overbloated egos somewhere! Your pride is just hurt. You wish you could tell her to know her place but unfortunately for you she does not get money from you! You don't feed her! Ask Ablakwa, general mosquito, fiifi kwettey, Sam George, etc etc tonapologize to nana Addo first!
You being a minister is a night mare and disgust me. Are you the one to determine what. Its so unfortunate mtcheew.
***barred word***!!! You as an MP is just disgusting!
Suhuyini is not credible to be called honourable MP. Is he not the one who raised the false alarm that NPP was carrying arms to go and attack NDC during the by-election at Tang in 2008? How can such a person descrdict Otiko?. I was therefore not surprise that he has teamed up with the likes of Mahama Ayariga and Ofri Gyato to come out with the fabricated bribery allegation. I will be glad if he is dragged to court.
