Member of Parliament for Juaboso Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has threatened court action if the nomination of Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister-designate Otiko Afisa Djaba is approval by parliament on Tuesday February 7.
This follows her failure to honour her national service obligation as required by the country’s laws. The development, which generated huge controversy, led to members of the Minority in parliament vehemently opposing her approval for that portfolio on Friday February 3 on the floor of the house.
Subsequently Ms Djaba’s approval was deferred to Tuesday February 7.
Speaking to Class News, Mr Akandoh said he would not hesitate to head to the court if parliament approved her nomination.
“The law says that you cannot be employed by anybody, you can even not be self-employed [if you have not done national service]. National service is only nine months, at most one year; she should go and do her national service. Even the law courts will not condone, will not permit the breach of a statute. If they try [to approve her], we will all go to court,” he stated.
Ms Djaba incurred the wrath of Minority MPs for her refusal to apologise for describing former President John Mahama as “evil”, “wicked” and “an embarrassment” to people of the regions up north when she appeared before the Appointments Committee to be vetted for her ministerial position.

Hello Mr. Dinning Hall prefect, hurry up and go to court now because it is a done deal she will be approved! Go now because she has even started work. Are you aware she is New York? Even you,you were approved. I can't wait to meet you and your lawyer in court on this matter.
SERVING AS A MINISTER IS NATIONAL SERVICE AND THE PRESIDENT HAS THE PREROGATIVE TO APPOINT ANY GHANAIAN AS MINISTER WITHOUT RECOURSE TO NATIONAL SERVICE JUST AS THE PRESIDENT CAN APPOINT ANYONE AS MINSTER WITHOUT RECOURSE TO RETIREMENT AGE. IT IS BECAUSE NDC SEES SERVING AS MINISTER AS A REWARD THAT IS WHY THEY THINK DENYING HER IS TO PUNISH HER. BUT IT IS NATIONAL SERVICE.
Any idoit can go to court

Instead of u pple asking relevant questions at the vetting, u are there playing petty cheap politics and doing the bidding of mahama instead of thinking of Ghana. Small boy like u. Eny3 woa. That's why I was disappointed with mahama for encouraging all these unruly, uncultured, ***barred word*** little rats like this boy to have the temerity of spewing gar.bage all over. They need to be shut down quick. We need discipline and proper manners. Honourable my foot.
