Member of Parliament for Juaboso Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has threatened court action if the nomination of Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister-designate Otiko Afisa Djaba is approval by parliament on Tuesday February 7.
This follows her failure to honour her national service obligation as required by the country’s laws. The development, which generated huge controversy, led to members of the Minority in parliament vehemently opposing her approval for that portfolio on Friday February 3 on the floor of the house.
Subsequently Ms Djaba’s approval was deferred to Tuesday February 7.
Speaking to Class News, Mr Akandoh said he would not hesitate to head to the court if parliament approved her nomination.
“The law says that you cannot be employed by anybody, you can even not be self-employed [if you have not done national service]. National service is only nine months, at most one year; she should go and do her national service. Even the law courts will not condone, will not permit the breach of a statute. If they try [to approve her], we will all go to court,” he stated.
Ms Djaba incurred the wrath of Minority MPs for her refusal to apologise for describing former President John Mahama as “evil”, “wicked” and “an embarrassment” to people of the regions up north when she appeared before the Appointments Committee to be vetted for her ministerial position.

you can also go to hell if you don't get what you want in court. Now everybody goes to makola law school in Ghana and they think they know the law more than anybody.
SEFWIS SHOULD RETHINK VOTING SUCH APOLOGIES OF A LEGISLATOR TO REPRESENT THEM IN PARLIAMENT. EVEN YOU A DINING HALL PREFECT WAS APPROVED TO BE A MINISTER AGAINST ALL ADVISE. KAI, IT IS ONLY IN NDC WHERE YOU CAN BE APPOINTED A DEPUTY MINISTER. TWEAAAA, DEPUTY MINISTER INDEED. DON'T EMBARRASS SEFWIS.
ANY ***barred word*** can GO to Court.
I am surprised at these NDC people. I didn't think they know the laws of this nation until they went into opposition. They justified everrything in their time including criminal acts and contracts. Now they have found their voices. Madam Otiko's only crime is that she did not do her national service. Some are talking about unpatriotism. Really?. What is worse than ***barred word*** the national coffers and resources at the expense of the poor ordinary Ghanaians. Politicians!!! Otiko is right about what she said. To think that the NDC is prepared to overlook the national service issue and support her provided she apologises to Pres. Mahama should tell you the sort of politicians they are.
All the people defending her...national service is a requirement because the government pays for your school fees......thats why going to college in ghana is soo cheap. if she was a fee paying student then there is no need. and those saying someone was approved in the previous govt, so if they made a mistake should we continue that mistake. i thought we voted out Mahama because of such negligence and incompetency, please ...withdraw her, let her do her national service t flagstaff house for a year, then she can be renominated.
u are a very ***barred word*** boy nd a disgrace to de People of Sefwi. where were u wen Oti Bless was approved though he deliberately forfaited his national service obligation. revice de constitution nd de national service act before u steak. illeterate ***barred word*** like u has left our parliament in a vaccum.
..ndc has got swines!!!!
DID HE DO NATIONAL SERVICE?
NSS is a national obligation for anyone who completed tertiary institution. Must you guys support her refusal to honour it because she belong to your party? Your party is going to rule for 4years and doing NSS for one year will still give her the chance to become a minister. So NPP supporters what is so difficulty about this that some of you are just insulting others who are supporting the decision for her to do the NSS.
This is really not smart gentleman. Serving your country in a ministerial capacity is exactly that: National Service.
