Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, Anthony Abayifa Karbo has defended Gender Minister Nominee, Otiko Afisa Djaba’s decision not to withdraw her comments made against the former President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2016 elections saying, she spoke the mind of right-thinking northerners.
Hon. Otiko Djaba minced no words in describing Mahama as “wicked, evil and someone with a heart of the devil” at a rally in Tamale and pointed out during her vetting at Parliament House in Accra, that she owes the former President no apology for her comments.
“…when I talked about him being an embarrassment, I spoke in relation to SADA. SADA is very dear to my heart. My mother is a Northerner, the incidence of poverty is highest in the three Northern Regions and for a President who comes from the Northern Region, who promised to alleviate poverty, what happened to the Guinea fowls? It was an embarrassment to me and to the North. The Chiefs of the North actually made that statement and so I don’t owe him or you any apology. We are developing and building a nation,” she noted.
Otiko Djaba’s defence of the description has led to her rejection by the minority who thinks her attitude and character will be an affront to the ministry she is to head.
But speaking to ghanaweb, Hon. Karbo said Mahama indeed embarrassed Ghanaians living within the savannah areas of the three northern regions and should rather apologise.
“I am a northerner. I feel very embarrassed by what President Mahama did in terms of his legacy with SADA. You will be amazed how many northerners are applauding Madam Otiko for taking that stance. We have been very upset with the manner in which SADA has been managed and mismanaged by a northerner, a man whose father is a farmer. A man whose father has been part of the struggle to liberate northerners, [he] finally gets the opportunity to become president, promises his people that he will do a lot to better our lives and only to take GHC 260 million and there is nothing to show. That is a scar on the conscience of any right-thinking northerner… It was such an embarrassment,” he said.
Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) was a flagship programme of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government launched in 2008.
It promised to put GH¢200 million as seed money to develop the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Brong Ahafo Regions and some areas in the Volta Region.
However, an investigation by ace journalist, Manasseh Azure in 2014, revealed massive rot at the Authority which had become a vehicle for severe mismanagement.
Further investigations by the Auditor-General confirmed that government wasted GH¢48 million in a Guinea Fowl rearing and Tree Planting projects.
There were no Guinea fowls to show for the investment and there was no value for money for the tree planting project. Although SADA paid GH¢32 million for five million trees, only 700,000 were planted.

Actions speak louder than words John Mahama actions spoke volumes when deliberately mismanage the SADA funds and let his people suffered John gave the funds to Agambire to build computers and buy mansions in Dubai for himself and John Mahama
Anthony Kabo who told you northerners applaud Otiko. That is not true.
JOHN MAHAMA AND HIS BROTHER IBRAHIM ARE INTERESTED IN FLYING THEIR PRIVATE JETS WHEN THEIR OWN PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH LIVE IN ABJECT AND DEBILITATING POVERTY. OF WHAT USE IT IS IF YOU ARE RICH AND YOU CANNOT HELP GET YOUR PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY. IT IS A S BIG SHAME.
Baba Rahman are you are Ghanaian? So are you happy with what John Mahama did to his own people? I'm a southerner but disgusted the way your own treated you and for you to draw a line between the two and your president also lies in the hands of God. I'm proud to be a southerner because after all my people will never be so insens*tive, wicked and evil heart to treat us the way John Mahama from the North treated his own people which some of them are defending. General Kutu Acheampong was an Ashanti from the Ashanti region but his people were the first to disagree with his Union Government and some of his policies,Rawlings was wrong to kill him because he wasn't the ultimate to do that,he could have jailed him or something but Ashantis never complained, they have the majority constituencies in Ghana but never had they taking the trouble to ask any ndc MP before vetting committee that they were members anything concerning that act. They believe life must move on but not the ndc, very vindictive people who never forgive so doesn't also need to be forgiving. I support Hon. Otiko 100% for acting as a brave and bold woman an Iron Lady. Ndc can't cow people when they are in opposition,we've had enough of your bully and intimidation and we are moving our country forward, nation wreckers and enemies of Ghana,anti-Ghana elements and unpatriotic souls. Opposition is where ndc belong never to the seat of government of our dear nation divisive and tribalistic people. I just can't stand you.
It really saddens my heart when I hear of Sada and yet we get stuuuuuuuuuuuupid people to defend NDC. Perhaps they do not pay tax in country. if they were to pay like some of us that about 30% of our salary is deducted as tax, they will not open their mouth wide to defend NDC. Thiefers
As long as i do not support the fact that people should be called names, i equally do not support leaders who refuses blatantly to discipline their appointees when they messes up. My former president could not call corruption by its real name when his own people indulged in it.
The Almighty God, the Omnipotent, the All Knowest, the Judge above all judges will judge between you Anthony Kabo and Otiko Djaba Vs John Dramani Mahama. If the Ex-President meant evil for Northerners . May the Almighty God draw the between you Anthony and you sister Otiko Djaba and JDM.
