"...are we saying that this budget is not for Muslims, are we saying that this budget is not for Atheist and so on, are we saying that this budget is primarily a Christian budget? Who elected this government to give us a Christian budget...?”
Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr made the above statement to express his dissatisfaction on what he describes as a 'Christian budget' presented in Parliament.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Attah during the presentation of the 2017 budget, made some references to quotations in the Bible, the Holy book of Christians.
He said: “Mr Speaker, I see our nation with this overwhelming election mandate as all having decided to withdraw in unison like Jesus to a remote place, Mr. Speaker, only to discover that we have five loaves of bread and two fishes to feed our 25 million plus fellow citizens. But herein lies the genius of the Ghanaian for we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do. As you can see, Mr. Speaker, with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, President Akufo-Addo’s budget has tackled the five structural pillars of revenue, expenditure, earmarked funds, labour and our debt.”
But contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji programme, the senior journalist pointed out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not elected to give Ghanaians a 'Christian budget'.
"...are we saying that this budget is not for Muslims, are we saying that this budget is not for Atheist and so on, are we saying that this budget is primarily a Christian budget? Who elected this government to give us a Christian budget? We have Ghanaians who are Jews, we know they believe in God but do not accept the New Testament. I’m saying that when we are doing circular things we should do circular things. He kept on referring to Jesus Christ in relation to the budget. Even if Vice President Bawumia is addressing the country through Parliament and he keeps on mentioning the name of Mohammed throughout his presentation, I’ll take him on...I am not happy at all with the religious bigotry which was so vulgarly displayed in the reading of the budget and I do hope that it will not extend to other state functions “
He added that even “when late President Mills said he had banned the pouring of libation and traditional prayers at state functions, he (Pratt) sharply disagreed with him (Mills), because no religion is inferior.
"Prof. Mills was a Christian alright but he couldn’t have chosen for us all, he couldn’t have created the impression that traditional religion is inferior; he had no right to do that under the constitution. Our leaders have a responsible to treat all religions equal....When late President Mills said he had banned the pouring of libation/traditional prayers at state functions I had a problem with him. Prof. Mills was a Christian alright but he couldn’t have chosen for us all, he couldn’t have created the impression that traditional religion is inferior, he had no right to do that under the constitution. Our leaders have a responsible to treat all religions equal,” Pratt stated.

Kwesi Pratt is the worst commentator Ghana HSS ever had. He always speaks with hidden tribal hatred that escapes most Ghanaians. He always pretends to be neutral & throw put his hate invectives full of bad adjectives. He is the type we describe as 'omanboefuo' - a treasonable character. He is one of those detractors who have kept Ghana backward often referring to the fruitless bitter past. He is negative in recounting the past, unlike Kweku Baako whose historical renditions are positive. He is like a crab which stops others from climbing to escape. It is bad if it does not go his way.A national detractor, he sounds like it.
Pratt paaa.... When you are on peace fm, you sometimes talk sensibly but when you get to radio gold, it's like you've been possessed!! The minister is a Christian so he relates to things that way. Why should he behave like a Muslim? Mind you Islam and Christianity aren't the only religions in Ghana.
This man called pratt,I belf the number 666 is on his 4head.what kind of wicket journalism is that.try bring confusion btwn Muslims n others in the country
Kwasi you can go hug any transformer around your hood, devise a strategy to manage your usel..ess toi..let thing u called newspaper. And those keep on saying Ghana is a secular state should go expunge God's name from the national anthem, You guys should give us a break, every country was founded on a particular religion, why do we ve Muslim countries and the likes, Kwasi careful the way you treat God's name in national issues, Those who are in the state of denial should take time to read our constitution. If I m God , will cease the air u breathe for just 20 seconds for to to know I exist, but what is the wonder if eeevil men like Kwasi Pratt don't want Gods name to be mentioned in national programs, Kwasi the name will continuously be mentioned in all the national programs, don't forget mantra; THE BATTLE IS STILL THE LORDS, Grasshopper Chameleon
Pratt is so ***barred word*** i have never seen his kind in my life. He tries to justify his foolishness under the guise of making analysis. Did you expect Ken to talk about the devil. He is a Christian and he spoke about his faith. What is wrong with that? Grow up and stop this childish behaviour.
Kwesi Pratt is an example of everything that is so wrong with society today. His uuuuseless ideologies he continues to shove down our throats. Fa wasem sor hor
AFTER FOLLOWING THE SATANIC NDC BLINDLY FOR A VERY LONG TIME, MR KWESI PRATT IS NOW BECOMING ANTI-CHRIST. HE NEEDS OUR PRAYERS. MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS WORSHIP THE SAME GOD WE CALL DIFFERENT NAMES LIKE ALLAH, GOD, ONYANKOPONG ETC. SO, WHAT IS KWESI PRATT'S PROBLEM SINCE IN ALL THINGS , WE MUST MENTION THE ALMIGHTY GOD'S NAME?????!!!
Mr Pratt, please Ghanaians don't have time for you and your Radio Gold and that Alhaji and Alhaji anymore. Some of us are thinking about what the budget will do for us and not what was said.
Kwesi Pratt is a ***barred word***. He raped a woman around weija in 2002.
