The founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed disappointment at the number of ministers appointed by President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the president has appointed too many ministers to serve in government, arguing this will have negative implications on the public purse.
President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday made new ministerial appointments, bringing the number appointed so far to 110.
Reacting to the news, Franklin Cudjoe told Richard Sky on Eyewitness News
that the size of the current government does not reflect the pledge by Nana Akufo-Addo to protect the public purse.
“You would have thought that the words used by the president himself in the run-up to the 2016 elections that he will protect the public purse will be minded at least so when I hear the minister for information saying the economy is a weak economy, and so you need a strong army of people, well then you may as well add militia people.”
Franklin Cudjoe said although the President had the constitutional right to appoint ministers of a number of his choice, it is not prudent to appoint too many of them.
He described the appointment as a “legal plunder” in the face of the country’s weak economy.
“The second justification for this which tells me that we’ve completely lost the plot is this whole business that because the constitution allows it, there is an open-ended opportunity, in my description of prudence, that falls under legal plunder. The fact that the law says that you can go and on does not mean that the very weak fundamentals of the economy that you said you met should be plundered in this manner” he said.
“An output based governance is based on some serious policy. You take education, for instance, the major deliverable is ‘Free SHS’, have you seen any major policy document guiding how this will be deployed?… Have you seen a policy called planting for food and jobs? To see that we have a minister of state for Agriculture at the presidency and at the same time we have two deputy ministers for Agriculture, what will they be doing?” he quizzed.
‘Ghana can do with 30 ministers’
Meanwhile, Franklin Cudjoe has suggested that the country needs just bout 30 ministers to serve in the various ministries.
According to him, some countries with larger economies have fewer ministries or ministers than Ghana.
“This country can do with about 30 ministers and that is set. I’ve been to Australia and the UK, and their institutions and ministries that are being collapsed into desks for agency heads. That is a country that is vast like a continent in itself. I think 30 ministers can do for this country,” he said.

Those arguing that ministers are too many, I don't get them at all. We should no that, there are dynamism in very situations. Remaining continues with one thing, does not bring change, development and improvement as we need in work and societies but rather create mess. These new ideas, innovations and changes in governance shows how the leader is serous. Because governance is not remain status quo but bring new ideas and innovations on board. I think the current government size, is new feature, strategy and change the leader has invented to help solve our numerous challenges. So we should embrace it this new change with the hope that it will work for better. Change are characteristics of good and born leaders. The question is, should we use always our fingers to eat and not use spoon?
The people who were complaining about the hardship in the economy during the last regime are people with Brains & Wisdom hence understands that 2 months is not enough for any president to transform any economy. It is only F00OOLS like you who will demand Economy Transformation at a time the president is even still appointing his ministers. Anyone with human brains will know that we need to give the new government sometime. You are all here making noise about the number of ministers including that iddiottt call Franklin Cudjo; But how do you expect the new president to do same things as his predecessors and expect a different results? That is the Black Mentality; full of F00OLISHNESS. Well for your information; in order to get different results you must do things differently. Nana Addo is the president, leave him to do his job and ask for accountability when his time comes. I'm not saying we shouldn't criticise but why this time? It is his strategy and what we seek to find is results. So stop your F00OLISH talks and let the competent man work for the better of Ghana. if you think you know Better go and campaign and become the president. Until then stop behaving like uncivilised individuals even though you are. GET SOME BRAINS
FRANKLY SPEAKING THIS NUMBER OF MINISTERS DO NOT NEED AT THIS MOMENT OF OUR ECONOMY.PLEASE I PLEAD WITH THE AUTHORITY TO HAVE A SECOND LOOK AT IT .COUNCIL OF STATE ARE YOU THERE PLEASE SAY SOMETHING FOR THIS IS NOT THE CREATION OF JOBS FOR THE YOUTH.
Ei! angel NPP and Mr Truth Bawumia. Ayekoo for deceiving Ghanaians. We are watching you. Petro is GHC 21.00 per galon. hmmmmm, no more comments.
This "obolo" gov't is not pleasant at all. We wait to see how this can move our country forward.
And so what`
I don't blame the politicians. I blame Civil Society, the Moral Society, some Media outlets and some opinion leaders who have led us into this mess. Impression was created as though the former government was a body of evil people. For weeks now cost of living is sky rocketing, fuel prices are all time high and now we have been visited with "110 Yansafuo". Did we go or did we come? Those who voices were heard when things were not going on well have all of a sudden become deaf and dumb. People who used their pulpits to disturb us to push away a government which was making life unbearable have now decided to change from being servants of God to become dieticians. Who will now talk for us if what we are hearing and seeing is going to continue is different forms and shapes? A collapsed and sick economy can conveniently take care of 110 ministers not in the second year of governance but rather in the very first year when we have been told that things don't look good. Ghanaians are being taken for fUlls. The politicians are living on our sweat. A group comes to condemn a sitting group and promises heaven and the mandate is given. After a number of years another one comes to paint same picture and also given opportunity to govern. As I said, I will not blame the politician. Rather, the so-called civil society, moral society, media and opinion leaders. They are the ultimate beneficiaries. They are not in the limelight. They hide and enjoy at our expense.
NPP will never cease to amaze. A professor once said when you are looking for logic, don't go to UP and NPP. How can a shrink, depleted, bad, broke economy requires more managers than labourers. Can you think far, Mustapha Hamid, Mr. Plagirised President or this elephantile large Ministers too was plagiarized from America
Nana addo's new song for the year is, NANA adadaaahen oooooo, agyegyehen ekokuhen.
