Former Member Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to reduce the number of Ministers in his government.
According to him, the numbers are ridiculous and will not foster economic progress.
President Nana Addo seems to have made history by appointing the highest number of Ministers and their deputies ever in the annals of Ghana's history.
The "elephant size" Ministers has been defended by the President and government officials who indicate that the size is to ensure a greater output and further fulfil the President's vision for the country.
The President now has a total number of 110 Ministers and Deputies in his administration, the highest to serve since the beginning of the fourth Republic.
Out of the total 110, 20 are Regional Ministers and their deputies, 40 Ministers for various ministries with 50 deputies.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Nii Amasah Namoale noted that the huge numbers will encourage duplication in the roles and duties of the Ministers and their deputies.
He made mention of Ministries like the Agriculture Ministry which has a Minister and three deputies bringing the number to four Ministerial appointees for one Ministry, and stressed it's a bad idea.
He further referred the President to his promise to ensure a lean government when he's voted into power by Ghanaians and pleaded with him to reduce the numbers.
“It’s too much. I will plead with Nana Addo, he can reduce it. He can reduce the number because to me, the duplication will be a lot. It won’t also foster understanding and progress. It’s Ghanaians who will pay them but I plead with Nana Addo that with 110, the whole world; we hold the highest number of Ministers.”
