President Akufo-Addo does not intend to replace the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei according to Eugene Arhin, Communication's Director at the Presidency.
This follows a warning the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) gave to the President concerning the EC boss.
The NDC has warned President Akufo-Addo to stop his plan of ousting Madam Charlotte Osei following internal wrangling at the commission.
Speaking at a press conference, the Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, cautioned that, President Akufo-Addo’s blackmailing attempt of Madam Osei in order to impose another person on the EC, will be met will fierce resistance from the opposition members.
“Stay off and stop intruding into the operations and activities of the EC, the NDC has tolerated the NPP hounding out Civil Servants from office since assumption of power,” he said.
However, speaking in an interview on Okay FM’s morning show ‘Ade Akye Abia’, Monday, Eugene Arhin said the President has no intention of replacing the EC boss.
"He has no plans of replacing Madam Charlotte Osei . . . he has only forwarded the petitions he received to the Chief Justice to see if a prima facie case can be established,” he explained.
President Akufo-Addo has referred two petitions against Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Georgina Opoku Amankwa and Mr. Amadu Sulley to the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo.
The president referred both petitions to the Chief Justice for resolution, in accordance with the provisions of Article 146(3).
Prior to this, a similar petition against the chairperson of the commission, Charlotte Osei was also referred to the Chief Justice.

The dwarf president cannot sack mrs Osei. He will do that if he gets the chance but Ghanaians are watching him. Onaapo.
Please, can someone help me here. The NDC members in Parliament are warning Nana Addo about the EC Boss because they can tolerate anymore for NPP sacking NDC members. Hey!!!! so my question is "Is EC Boss an NDC Member"?
Nana has better things to do. People envy Mrs Osei for no reason
If Nana decides to fire her, NDC, what can you do?
NPP government, STOP responding to NDC!!! You are not OBLIGED to answer them on their sillllly and deliberately distracting comments and queries. We the voters for change in the 2016 elections will not be kind to you if you DO NOT stop minding NDC and focus on fulfilling your promises to us.
It is now an established fact that irrespective of who the EC commissioner is, elections can be fair. Plug the gaps and stay vigilant. Streamline the process and remove any ambiguities. With the advent of National ID cards, the entire electoral register will be preened. Ropal also comes into play. At this stage Gh can even have JDM double as EC commissioner and presidential candidate - NDC will still lose.
A little bit it of education, Nana Addo, the president has no powers to sack the EC boss, he has to follow the constitutional process, the significant power lies with the chief and even that is limited, although if the CJ find a prima facie case in the petition, she can constitute a bias panel of investigators, this is where I believe the constitution got it wrong, the constitution should have provided some guidelines on the selection of the panel but leaving it blank gives too much power to the chief justice which can obviously be abused. if Nana Addo and his NPP do not like Charlotte, she will likely go because that will be relayed to the Chief justice (CJ is a distant cousin and former junior in the chambers of Nana Addo) in a private conversation, empanel a entrenched panel finds her guilty and that is the end. The constitution of Ghana must change, the significant abuse of power by our presidents in particular is as a result of the very bad constitution we have, if we don't change it, there will be no hope for Ghana.
@Mark. You have obviously not read the constitution. President is required to forward the petition to the CJ even if EOCO or any other entity is also investigating
Ndc forget this Ec talks,if the chief Justice find some merit in the case they will be replaced and therespect is nothing anybody including ndc can do about it.
You think NPP was sleeping in opposition without talking and all of a sudden some Ghanaians from the moon came down to vote for Nana Addo. Your Party NPP is so intolerance to the divergence view of reasonable Ghanaians. Continue to tickle yourself and lough.
