The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi says the behavior now exhibited by the minority in parliament is uncalled for.
To him, the minority in parliament are portraying characters which are ‘unparliamentary’ and must be condemned by all.
Speaking on NEAT FM's morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, the outspoken Ashanti Regional Chairman who described NDC’s Haruna Iddrisu as a “fine gentleman” says he is “shocked” with his kind of leadership as minority leader in the August House.
Chairman Wontumi noted that the strategy the minority is adapting recently in parliament to distract proceeding is “needless”.
“They are making needless press conferences in parliament. I am very shock and surprised. Haruna Iddrisu was a fine gentleman so what happened? Or is the minority suffering from ‘Kpokpo gbli gbli’ because they are in opposition?” he asked host Kwesi Aboagye.
Minority in Parliament stormed out of Parliament on Tuesday over the Speaker’s decision to forward the motion to withdraw the 2015 AMERI deal to the House’s Energy Committee.
It would also be recalled that the Minority threatened to impeach the Speaker over claims of bias against them.
This followed a complaint by its leader Haruna Iddrisu on Thursday, July 27 that Prof Oquaye had limited him to just one question when the Minister of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) appeared before parliament.
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto was on the floor to answer questions relating to government’s Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
Parliament has since described as false, allegations by the Minority that the Speaker of Parliament Prof Mike Oquaye has been biased against them.
This was contained in a statement by Parliament’s Acting Director of Public Affairs Kate Addo on Tuesday, August 1.

Let's just forget that Parliament did exist, Haruna was the president of the Ghana-wide students union at the university, who is Wontomy? chair of a party in a region. So on what basis is he questioning the understanding of the later of parliamentary business. I leave it at that
what do you mean that this kola-nut addict haruna is a fine gentleman. Is it because he had free education up to law school under NDC? He got to be NDC MP. He got to be NDC minister. He got to be NDC minority leader? What happened to the Ghana economy all the time that he and the NDC were in government? Did it go up or go down? And you call this incompetent talkative a 'fine gentleman'? Are you mad? You do you have a low IQ? WHich is it?
a previous guy below has said it all. Iddirisu is a political chameleon who uses people to further his PERSONAL profile. Tamale was flooded and he was in Accra defending Charlotte Osei against Nana Addo for NO REASON. Iddrisu will sell his own mother if it will make him get political post.
Mark go to China or Russia, what language do they speak? speaking english alone does not make you educated. I can tell you on authority than our Grandparents and Parents days were better than now. They didn't speak much english but their lifestyle were more structured than the flit and smelly cities we live in now. Mark what is your contribution to mother Ghana?
what happened to him, Wontumi? The same thing that happened to you when you were in opposition!!! Naniamaa ..you have the guts to ask what happened to him? you think it is galamsey he is digging like you?
@Mark, Where has your grammar and English-speaking taken you to? You will continue to rot in your abject poverty for thinking that speaking English fluently makes you somebody. Is it not a language just as our Twi? Your mind has been colonized to the extend that you think everything foreign is better than our own....fooooooooooooooool.
so you think he should just keep quite and allow the inexperience speaker of parliament to just impose any ***barred word*** on them heh ***barred word*** wuntumi? why not you advice your own self and the ***barred word*** kennedy agyepong the ***barred word*** man. npp is full of senseless talkertives including bawumia.
Haruna is never a fine gentleman. He has always been a chameleon. He did it in NUGS in the 1990s. He always finds a way to 'hide his cards' and then swoop in when other people have done the hard work to take the rewards. He is an opportunist who uses people, organisations, groups, etc to propel himself. Tell me one thing Haruna has done for ANYBODY. Everything he does is for his own interest. But he makes it look like he is doing it for others. He did it NUGs, he did it to Tamale constituency to get NDC MP seat, he did it to NDC to become a minister for 8 years of incompetence. He is now doing it to become minority leader. Check his track record very carefully and you see how opportunistic he is. He only does things for his PERSONAL BENEFIT and makes it look like he did it for others. He got free education from primary, secondary, university and through law school whiles others PAID. Of all the things he has gotten by being Tamale MP, what has improved life of the average resident of Tamale? Tell me? Yet he is still desirous of getting free things. Tell us just ONE thing Iddrisu has done to benefit people other than himself. It is time Ghanaians exposed the TRUE CHaracter of such people.
Whoever thinks Haruna Iddrisu has a better disposition than what he is exhibiting now is far from being right. You can know your best friends when in need. All along Haruna has been on the ruling or majority side, in which case he could fake being gentle. Now that he is in opposition/minority he has no where to hide his true colours. What you see of him of late is his real character on display. The NDC will reduce anybody to a 10th grade performer. Chairman, don't bother about him wai.
For whatever language Wontumi choose to speak, he is at least dealing with the substantive matter in Parliament. You are not and only attacking his personality. I do sincerely agree with Wontumi. What we do not know is that the work that goes on Parliament goes beyond party politics and if we do not have strong opposition to test the bills that are presented in Parliament we will live to regret. The style of leadership Haruna Iddrisu trying to exhibit will not be the best. My conclusion is very simple, either they are lacking the right caliber among their Parliamentarian caucus with the requisite experience or they lack total direction and vision. You choose to sack tried and tested Parliamentarians like Enock Teye Mensah for Sam George. Let them do the job and stop walking out of Parliament with this "Y3n b)bion syndrome"
