Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has said suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, violated the party’s constitution after his suspension by his mere presence at certain party events.
According to Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a suspended executive of the party, per the NPP’s constitution, cannot attend functions organised by the party such as the Extraordinary Delegate’s Conference which Mr Agyepong attended in Kumasi on Sunday, 17 December.
In the lawmaker’s view, to the extent that Mr Agyepong has on several occasions attended party events, he has violated the party’s constitution.
His comments come on the heels of a comment by Mr Agyepong that his suspension has been “too long”.
Mr Agyepong told the media on the sidelines of the party’s Extraordinary Delegates’ Conference that the national leadership of the NPP, must listen to those clamouring for his reinstatement.
He was suspended indefinitely along with the party’s Chairman Paul Afoko and Second Vice Chair Sammy Crabbe for allegedly working against the interest of the NPP ahead of the 2016 general elections.
The National Executive Committee of the NPP acted based on findings of the party's Disciplinary Committee and suspended the three on 10 December 2015.
The suspensions followed a petition brought against the three by some NPP members.
But speaking on this development in an interview on AccraFM Monday, 18 December, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said: “I don’t know what he means by his suspension has taken too long because there was no timeline to his suspension.
“If you are suspended indefinitely, indefinitely could mean forever, and, so, we don’t know the basis for saying his suspension has taken too long.”
“Do you know that technically someone can argue that he has violated the party’s constitution? The constitution has stated clearly what he should do, yet he didn’t do it. By attending the party’s event yesterday and the one in Cape Coast, someone can argue that he has violated the party’s constitution.”
“I am not judging, I cannot judge alone, the parliamentary caucus will have to meet on this to decide what to do.”

Kwabena Agyepong is not needed by the NPP now. He should stay back and learn to respect laid down procedures.
I am a dye in the wool NPP sympathizer and have no apologies for that. However, the likes of our Fugu wearing Majority leader are the very reason why if care is not taken, the NPP will be back in opposition soon. A party that believes in the rule of law, acts in such a manner to deny people the very basic right they are entitled to. I believe in the culture of silence era, when people disappeared and were tortured under Rawlings, Osei-Kyei was probably quiet or was hiding somewhere in the guise of exile. The likes of Kwabena Agyepong were a few well known party members now who spoke up and were very instrumental in getting the NPP to where it is today. I have no doubt that many in the party harboured enviness and dislike for him and are using this bogu$ suspension as a means to keep him out. John Boadu has done marvellous work for the party and he one of the very few capable of sustaining the party. BUT please let the rule of law prevail. There is no doubt that JB will beat Kwabena Agyepong in the election of the General secretary position so $hut up majority leader. We need everyone.
If your child misbehave at school and is suspended INDEFINITELY, what do you do as a parent? Let's be straight here, there are rules in every institution/organization. Follow them and stay safe. Yes it is obvious that you are an elected GS of the party, but you were suspended. What happened? Please be humble and do the right thing for us to sympathize with you, and possibly plead on your behave for mercy. COME DOWN Kwabena!
Reading through the comments made by the majority leader,he said "the suppensions followed a petition brought against the three by some npp memebers"n indeed they were suspended. And why is it that others too are calling for their reinstatement and they are silent about it or they are not considered valuable in the party any more.
Osei Kyei Mensah must know that politics is about numbers so if should shout up and talking like a child or he think the npp is for him alone.
He should not be allowed to hold and party position in future. His loyalty has been compromised by himself. He must be thinking that he partly owns the party and that he must be called back. No one is bigger than the party. Allen Kyeremateng that he was fighting for, took a smart decision and teemed up with Nana to win the election. He is now comfortably enjoying his position. Look at you. You can wear a cassock and miter, you wont be reinstated.
YOU SEE THIS MAN, A HYPOCRITE A SNAKE UNDER GRASS MAN. YOUR OWN PARTY MEMBER TRYING TO BRING HIM DOWN ENTIRELY. ONE DAY IT WILL COME TO YOUR TURN. THAT'S WHY HE'S ALWAYS ADVOCATING TO BE LEFT ALONE TO BE A PARLIAMENTARIAN FOREVER. HYPOCRISY OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE.
