The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, together with the leadership of the Majority in Parliament has been registered and issued with the new national identity card (Ghana Card).
Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Majority leader, Ms Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, Deputy Majority leader and Mr Kwesi Ameyaw Kyeremeh, the Majority Chief Whip, were among those, to have received their cards.
The registration exercise which started in parliament last week Tuesday is expected to cover Members of Parliament (MP), staff of the parliamentary service and parliamentary press corps.
The Jubilee House, parliament, judicial service and the security services would be first covered before the mass registration across the country in August, this year.
The Minority in Parliament had boycotted the registration over the decision by the National Identification Authority (NIA) not to accept the voter ID card as a proof of citizenship for a person to be listed for the new Ghana card.
The Minority had threatened to file a suit at the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of the NIA.
They had also raised questions about the cost, scope and legality of the project.
Mr Ameyaw Kyeremeh speaking to media after taking his Ghana Card urged everybody to avail themselves of the mass registration.
He said despite the initial hitches, he was confident that the mass exercise was going to be smooth.

Hahahahahahaha! Ogyam, it's hard living with f000**00ls! they think they can override a party with the majority in parliament. Ndc was in power when they were defeated mercilessly with the opposition then winning 169 seats with ndc 106 and they don't feel ashamed but making unnecessary noise thinking this government has time for them to wait! I thank this government for not listening to idi*ts to govern this country but going according to the covenant they had with the people, continue to ignore them and do what is good for the country and the people. Whatever you do they will never appreciate because they are still in bitterness and they think they are punishing the country by their st*pid actions and will end up begging when everything is done. They really don't know Akufo Addo, the man is very lenient and understanding but will never allow f000**00ls to take that as weakness. Asiedu Nketiah and that Jallo should make a mistake like ndc is also in power and they will know their real position in Ghana. This election was voted by majority of Ghanaians and chose who they want to rule them, unlike before when ndc chose who to rule Ghana by rigging,so, if the good people have rejected the ndc that they don't like them and ndc don't understand and want to distabilize the country, somebody tell Asiedu Nketiah his family are not yet safe in Canada, just $200.00 can do the trick! He should try any st*pid thing in Ghana and he will see what will happen to his family in Canada. The government should not give any chance to evil people, they are plain evil wizards who are looking for blood, but will not get it! they will be chased out of Ghana, without Ghana card you can't live there because you are undocumented and you can't vote and you can't play the ***barred word***!
Let them continue to dance agbadza and the time will come. They refused to make the most of this opportunity to register. Well, that is their choice, but they should be minded no room will be made for them to register until after the registration period.
