National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said the huge size of the Akufo-Addo government is affecting the economic output of the country indirectly.
Speaking to Citi News after the mid-year budget review by the Finance Minister, Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa said that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s huge government size of 110 ministers and 998 Presidential staffers is affecting the economic output of the country negatively.
He argued that the size overrides that of other countries with huge population compared to Ghana.
“We don’t need 110 ministers; we don’t need thousands of Presidential staffers, so you are not leading by example. Who hasn’t complained about this? From the clergy to civil society.” he queried.
“If you take countries that have a population over a 100 million from India, to China to the United States they don’t have up to 40 ministers, yet we have 110. One would have thought that after appointing 110 ministers, you will have the lowest Presidential staffers ever.”
The former deputy Minister of Education also accused the government of supervising over what he terms as ‘weak systems’ in the public agencies.
He said the recent Auditor General reports that cited the loss of huge sums is further proof that government is overseeing irregularities and corruption in the country.
Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa also expressed his disappointment at the inability of the Finance Minister to address issues relating to the ‘falling currency’.
He said issues of unstable currency is a major concern to Ghanaian businesses that must be addressed with all urgency.
“We didn’t hear very clear attempts to address the falling currency. That is a major concern to Ghanaians. It affects everything; general increases in goods and services; businesses are complaining.”

Paa Osei, you are right, because one can easily make an informed analysis here to clear the rationale behind NPP's stance whereby you list out the number of ministers in Mahama's Administration as against that of Nana and likewise work out their respective salaries. This will definitely clear the value for money issues with respect to their respective performances to date. This will not be touted as propaganda but issue-based, and an informed critic.
I do not understand why NDC still dwells on the 110 Ministers matter. The ruling Government has come out severally to explain the rationale behind it, but it seems NDC deliberately won't do away with it and rather will still prefer to make baseless propaganda with it. The truth is, those University leaving Graduates who by propaganda and the making noise University Hall-politics still want to enjoy their old days' students politics in Ghana Parliment. It is really a high time NDC got its' feet on the ground, founded and established an institution to scale-up its' members intellectual skills to correct the deficit. It seems to me the bare skill they possess is speaking the Queen's language and that is clearly not enough a tool to solve our social and complex political problems. Playing the tribal card of bigotry to get votes is gradually losing basis, in the Ghanaian politics, to that of policy interventions which at the end of the day, will improve their living standards.
Ablakwa should just stick with getting a national ID card. It's simpler for him to do as it's just a pose and click, he has his card and not veer into territories he will disgrace himself. Getting the card is simpler.
Of course when you have people without logic and common sensse what do you expect. The NPP are just in to steal for 4 years, but they spoke as though they're our saviors. Nana Addo is one subtly corrupt guy. Nyantakyi revealed all , he's still paying for the family properties he sold all these years to become president. 110 ministers with advisors and aides who have special assistants with technical advisors, why won't we suffer ? For now , let them enjoy while it lasts ..... 2020 is just around the corner
Kwasiaaaa....your albino face is also affecting tourism in this country....!!!
70 double paid ministers worse than 110 ministers who receive single payments.
Ablakwa don't deserve to be a parliamentarian, tweeaaaaaa ,look at him, always lies to Ghanaians, is only GHANA that have such characters as an mp. Double salary mps and thiiiief mahama boy. Tell adongo ,bagbin ,arma kofi boa to bring their double salary and double ex-gratia.
NDC double salary deals is worse than 110 ministers.... We will soon remove the double salary thifs from parliament......
Mr. Ablakwah, i do not think we need 275 MP's in Ghana considering the size of our population. Also, remember most of these 110 ministers are MP's therefore their salaries is not a burden on the government. Remember, they are not taking double salaries!
Massa Okudzeto if you don't have anything to say just ***barred word***. Your VAT increment wahala did not materialize so you have to look aaaaa and find something no matter what to criticize the government on. Don't you people get tired of this tricks of yours that doesn't bear any fruits, and are you people not tired of yourselves? Haba!
