Former President John Dramani Mahama has said he will create more jobs for nurses and other health workers if he is elected as president again.
Mr Mahama said his government had the intention to build health facilities in every district so as to create room for more nurses and other health workers to be employed.
That intention, he said, was not understood very well by the nurses, thus, leading to agitations and protests against his government at the time he was in office.
The former president revealed that the next NDC government would, therefore, dialogue with the nurses about the best way forward in achieving that goal.
Should he return to office, he said, his government will continue with the expansion of health facilities to accommodate all nurses.
Mr Mahama, who is campaigning to be flag bearer of the NDC again, said this at Nalerigu in the Northern Region after students of the Nalerigu Nursing Training College mobbed his convoy.
“If you don’t create new opportunities for health workers by building new facilities, then you cannot employ them…,” he said.
The NDC, he noted, “will continue the process that we started of expanding hospitals, building new hospitals and creating opportunities for our health workers to tackle employment”.
In his view, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has brought untold hardships on Ghanaians since, according to him, the party made lofty promises which its government is yet to fulfil.
Mr Mahama said the next NDC government will assuage the plight of Ghanaians.

He should explain to us how he is going to create the jobs. He should again explain why he left 4 batches of nurses at home when he was in power. Also, how is he going to fund and sustain their salaries. Finally, he should give us time lines in order to to convince us. If he fails, he should tell us what we should do to him
aaah dis man koraaa whyyy?? craase or something??...who told you the problem of unemployed nurses is lack of availability of spaces or health facilities??? u see when people talk like this....hmmmm...well they say who the gods want to destroy they first make him mad
But you could not do that from 2013 to 2016.It is the present Government that is carefully placing the unemployed graduates. So there is an on going solution. Why don't you promise something else?
I think the former president must give some respect to his competitors. He should not assume he is the flag bearer of NDC. How does he expect the other candidates to support him if he wins the primaries. His posture will sink NDC further. His strategists are not really helping him. How can you promise to give jobs to more nurses knowing you kept 4 batches home. Such promises are not convincing although some gullible voters will believe him.
This man thinks and behaves as some spoilt teenager who sees nothing beyond his nose. Where would get the jobs from? If it was that easy, why did he give the newly trained nurses and unemployed graduates jobs during his time. Only silly minds like him will fall for this ***barred word***.
I just cant understand Mr Mahama. Is he campaigning for him to be elected as president or he is campaigning to be elected as the presidential candidate for his NDC party. Why shouldnt he target the NDC delegate but rather targeting general election?
