The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has lashed out at former President John Mahama; describing him as an abrasive and dangerous man after taking lessons from Stan Dogbe on how to keep “unfriendly” reporters away from his circle.
His harsh critique comes on the back of a recent attack on a reporter by a member of the security detail of ex-President John Mahama.
Joy News reporter, Parker Wilson, was allegedly slapped by the security detail of ex-president John Mahama.
The assault left the journalist visibly bruised with part of his face swollen and his right eye teary with pain.
Spokesperson of the John Mahama 2020 Campaign Team, Mr. James Agyenim Boateng, later issued a statement to apologize and inform the public that the officer in-charge of their security has been informed about the incident; adding that the matter is duly being investigated.
However their statement has been rubbished by Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako who is mostly referred to as Chairman Wontumi.
According to him, the abrasive personal style of former president Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won them few friends over the years and there was an urgent need for them to “repent”.
Chairman Wontumi explained that under the leadership of ex-President Mahama, the NDC has developed a penchant for attacking journalist or reporters who want to shed light on the dark activities of the party.
He recounted that as far back as 2015 when the NDC was in power, a presidential staffer by name Stan Dogbe admitted destroying a voice recorder belonging to a reporter at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
He added that in the heat of the matter, Stan Dogbe who is a close friend of former President Mahama refused to apologise and replace the broken recorder.
With this history fresh in the mind of Chairman Wontumi, he cautioned reporters not to get closer to ex-president Mahama’s recent tour since they couldn’t tell when he would unleash his “wild men” to beat them.
“Once bitten, twice shy. Don’t wait for that unpleasant experience. Mahama and his men are ready to devour reporters.
Through the lessons he took from Stan Dogbe, he now sees all of you as bad people and would unleash his men to attack you if you should attempt to shed light on his darker side. The man is an abrasive and aheartless guy”, Chairman Wontumi said.
