The victory of Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito makes the National Democratic Congress very “ill”, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has observed.
Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, noted that he had expected the NDC to vote out their old executives who led the party to defeat in 2016 and replace them with new ones who would have brought fresh ideas on board.
The NPP chairman explained that though he doesn’t share in the principles of the NDC, the best he would wish for is to see them develop into a vibrant opposition after loosing the 2016 elections by a margin of over one million votes.
“The NDC, after the 2016 humilation, have gone in for the same clueless mosquito to lead them. The party is sick of malaria if they believe a mosquito can lead them to victory in 2020. I feel they are not ready to learn. The same person who diverted party funds during the 2016 elections has been elected again? I feel sorry for them”, he said.
For the fourth consecutive time, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has been elected General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a landslide victory against his only contender, Koku Anyidoho.
The 61-year-old seasoned politician beat his only contender, Koku Anyidoho, who campaigned heavily to unseat his boss.
Asiedu Nketia was reelected when over 9,000 delegates of the party converged on the Trade Fair Center, Accra, to elect national executives for the next four years.
In the build-up to the Congress, some persons including Mr. Anyidoho appealed to the delegates to vote against Asiedu Nketia, claiming that his re-election would lead to the party’s defeat in the 2020 general elections as it happened in 2016.
