A Deputy Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kwaku Boahen says the NPP led government is taking Ghanaians for granted.
According to him, government’s decision to support Zongo women who are into 'waakye' and 'sobolo' making is a ‘useless’ initiative which must be condemned.
“NPP sometimes think that Ghanaians don’t have sense, they think we are fools. What support again does Zongo women need to prepare waakye and sobolo?” he questioned.
Government has said it will support Zongo women who are into 'waakye' and 'sobolo' making, as part of moves to empower them to be economically productive.
Responding to the issue on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Kwaku Boahen who appears to oppose strongly government's decision to support Zongo women in 'waakye' and 'sobolo' making said the women have the experience already so they don’t need it now.
“With their experience [Zongo women], they can even export waakye, koko and sobolo to abroad. Government should rather support them export waakye, koko and sobolo to abroad. They already know how to make them,” he told host Mac-Jerry Osei Agyeman.
“The NPP is not fulfilling its promises to the Zongo communities. They have lied to them and they will pay for that in 2020,” he added.
According to the Minister of Inner-city and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the ministry has since its inception put in place a number of socio-economic programmes to improve household incomes of such communities.
Dr Abdul-Hamid, who was speaking in parliament on Tuesday, 27 November 2018 noted that most of the youth in the Zongo communities will also be trained in ICT to enable them redirect their skills into productive ventures.
“The ministry has initiated a number of socio-economic programmes that are aimed at developing the human capacities of the people in Zongo communities, empower them to be economically productive and support the promotion of their indigenous businesses in order to improve household incomes,” Mustapha Abdul-Hamid said.

This guy is frustrated in life. Stopping teaching to enter into politics at times its very dicey. He drinks, speaks bad English, does not take his time to argue, insults adults, very disrespectful, has tribal ego, shouts like a 'villager' in his cocoa farm. Thinking his party should be in power always so that he can get left overs to hang on. This is the guy Kwaku Boahen. Always smelling alcohol. Politics is for serious minded people not creat, loooot and share group of companies.
THESE GUYS HAVEN'T LEARNT THE LESSONS OF 2016 AS THEY CONTINUE TO INUSLT THEIR OPPONENTS
It is simply shocking to observe the kind of leaders NDC elected at their recent congress to lead them. Just listen to this m0ron too. From Akamba to Sammy Gyamfi to Boahen etc, all seem to have capock on their heads instead of brains. While this 1diot thinks sobolo and waakye sellers do not need any support, Akamba is planning to win by-elections just when a painful death of an MP was announced. It tells so much about what the NDC as a party is made of. Gosh!
Yes we need help financially.I live in Kumasi and know Kwaku,he is now a millionaire, his wife is going to Dubai to bring goods. He thinks all is well with we the Zongo dwellers. We are looking forward to get the support. When he comes to Asawase to campaign I will organize my friends to pour hot waakye stew on him to match his ***barred word*** utterances.
This guy is just an ***barred word***. Yes the waakye seller needs support to expand. Wouldnt you like to sit in your office, download an app, make an order and your favourite waakye joint delivers your waakye within 10 minutes.I would like that and so would a lot of people but people like Kwaku Boahen who are so toxic and myopic in thinking do not see beyond their nose. When NDC was in powwer didnt they say they were going to train people in the North how to ride bicycles. This initiative is far more better than the riding of bicycle policy that they spent millions of Ghana cedis on.
Npp government is the most deceptive government Ghana has ever got. Even most of your flagship promises you have not redeemed them, here we are making another promise. By the way, did nana addo create zongo ministries with the purpose of improving how zongo women prepare waakye, koose, and kookoo? Its amazing how nana addo is wasting our resources. You appoint a minister who is paid monthly by tax payers, and the only thing he could think outside the box is improving how waakye and koose kookoo are prepared? What are the plans of the minister for the inner cities, probably, to improve how people litter the streets, defacate all over the place and choke gutters. We have to be serious in Ghana. I suspect because their lies in 2016 to Ghanaians worked, they still think Ghanaians are fuuuulish. Build some high rising buildings for zongoes and stop the nun sence about waakye and koose. They need better places to sleep.
THIS GUY REALLY A WEDNESDAY BORN, I BET TO DIFFER, WEDNESDAYS BORNS ARE SMART AND INTELLEGENT BUT NOT THIS NDC GUY. WHY IS HE TALKING WITH HIS HEART AND NOT HIS HEAD. IN ONE INSTANCE YOU SEE HIM OPPOSING THE INITIATIVE AND IN ANOTHER ADVISING GOVERNMENT TO HELP THE WOMEN TO EXPORT WAAKYE AND KOKO,ETC WHICH IS WHICH. CLEARLY STATE YOUR STAND AND STOP THE INSULT.SHALOM
So NDC will oppose every initiative that is geared towards helping the poor in society. These criiiimiiiinal gangs only think about how to create loot and share. This usssseless guy was using government V8 when NDC was in power and to him it was good. It was good to share V8 to party officials and Akua Donkor but to help the poor is a taboo.
What the zongo's need is education infrastructure for the girl child, hospitals for efficient health delivery and drainage construction to enhance cleanliness. O my God. How can you say, you will teach the zongo woman how to cook waakye. like seriously. stop insulting our brothers and sisters in the zongo's. shame to NPP and Mustapha.
Was this man also elected H3rr you are not correct at all. Thanks to the NPP government for thinking on Waakye and sobolo makers. Why didn’t you people do it
