Results from a research conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, have shown that President Nana Akufo-Addo will beat former president John Dramani Mahama hands down should elections be held today.
Per the results presented by Head of Political Science Department, Dr. Maame Gyekye-Jandoh, on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo would have led the poll with 49.3% with John Mahama trailing behind with 33.3%.
“For Nana Akufo-Addo, 49.3% said they would vote for him, 33.3% said they would vote for Mahama and 7.35 for Paa Kwesi Nduom,” she said.
She said the elections might head for a run-off since although Akufo-Addo may have taken the lead, he may not be able to cross the 50 percent plus one mark to be retained as president.
“These responses indicate simply and unsurprisingly that the two major parties are still the most preferred among voters, and secondly, that there might be another contest between President Akufo-Addo and former President Mahama during the 2020 elections,” she added.
Dr. Gyekye-Jandoh explained that two questions were asked respondents, one being which party they would vote for if elections were held today, and secondly, which candidate they would vote for.
She said “….48.9% of our respondents said they would vote for the NPP if elections were to be held today. 32.2% said they would vote for the NDC, 3.3% for the PPP, 1.7% for the CPP, 0.4% for the PNC and 0.2% for the NDP.”
Nana Akufo-Addo defeated John Mahama, then incumbent president, to become the president of Ghana in the 2016 general elections.
Akufo-Addo polled 53.9% of the total valid votes, while John Mahama managed 44.4%, the worse so far for an incumbent President.
Double track, galamsey fight most disliked gov’t policies – Report
The research which sampled about 5,000 Ghanaians nationwide touched on some areas including economy, education, campaign promises, government policies and programmes among others.
The researchers found out that one of government’s most fiercely pushed policies; the double track Senior High School education system, has turned out to be its most disliked policy among the electorate.
At the same time, one popularly supported policy; the fight against galamsey, is now the second most disliked of government’s policies.
The findings also show that the voters dislike the government’s drones for the health program, while a significant number expressed disappointment at the government’s job creation efforts.
“The government’s most liked policy and most disliked policy are related to education. And that is what I find interesting. For the second year running, free SHS has been most supportive of government policies. And yet only 33% said the double track was good, and 45% said it was not.”
“Indeed, double track is said to be the most disliked government program even though it was meant to facilitate free SHS by giving greater access; so a dilemma of the sort,” Dr. Gyekye-Jandoh added.

33% for NDC is disappointingly high for c.orrupt party like NDC.
This means almost 51% of Ghanaian s will vote against Nana Addo in just two years in government? then this is a very good news for NDC, because NDC as at now have no presidential candidate and manage to get 33.3%, then when they elect their flag bearer and put their policies in place Nana Addo will drop to 40%.
I should be worried if I am Ndc member. If 2016 you lost by 9.44% (53.79 to 44.35)and just after 2yrs you are losing by 16% (49.3% to 33.3%) according to the survey, then Ndc is finished. Now every development to be undertaken by the govt will add more votes to it and any additional vote for the govt will reduce the votes of the opposition. Wow! Ndc is in serious trouble as the govt is embarking on massive infrastructural development. Asem Aba o
hehehehehheheh....2020 will tell it all
Who cares about this chop bar research. Their findings do not even add up. How can free SHS be the most liked policy and at the same time the most disliked government policy, Eric Bossman headed this political science department, conducted a similar bogus research which favoured Akufo Ado and he was rewarded by Akufo Ado as a deputy Electoral commission chairman. Probably the new head of political science department wants some favour from the president. Anyway I heard the research was conducted in the ten regional capitals. If NDC is able to get 33% in ten regional capitals then I can assure you that 2020 elections is a done deal for NDC
33.3% for NDC is disappointedly high for such a corrupt party.
Well-done for giving kantanka a ten year tax holiday. If you can give our bauxite to foreigners for hundred years then kantanka also deserves a hundred years tax holiday. If you can create a free zone for foreigners since the 90s then kantanka deserves more than ten years tax holiday. If you guys are serious about helping kantanka start buying kantanka. You promised us you will use kantanka as a presidential Limo, what happened?
What a joke! You go and ask people which party they would vote for and which person they would vote for, and use it to determine who will win an election? Who does that? Is this a survey? No relevant economic question or infrastructure questions are asked. No question on agric, education etc and you call this a report?
UG report, since when did UG become a research institution on elections in Africa? All these lectures are NPP lecturers who has teamed up to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians. The same method is being used by owusu bempah, and this time it backfired. Owusu bempah should pray hard that nothing happens to the chief imam, else that would be his end. Similarly these UG research group should pray that nothing changes else its over for them. Ghanaians are looking at their living conditions to determine who should be voted for not this bogus report.
They can take it or leave it ,I mean the ndc! we've told them 2020 they will get 30-33% and they should mark it on the wall. Ghana ay3 den mpo ni ndc! then wait for the end of 2019 to 2020 you will lose potoo with your bobolibobo policy and insults. The same mistakes that took them to opposition are still being repeated being headed by John mahama himself and he think Ghanaians are ***barred word*** to vote for such an unc*outh and uncult*ured leader who insults everyone in Ghana just because he feels above everyone because he killed Atta Mills to become unexpected president. The defeat of the ndc is coming again so let the people say ehe edzo bodoo!Ghanaians in general don't like ndc! 49%-33% =16% hehehehe! double digit defeat! ndc collapse! Madam, please the diasporians are also going to vote oooooh! ay3 ka!
