Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Mr Isaac Adongo has descended heavily on one of the leading members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, for his recent comments on the embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana.

Mr Otchere-Darko, who is President Akufo-Addo’s cousin took to social media to announce that CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1) had absconded after locking up millions of customers’ cash at his firm.

The private legal practitioner said although Mr Appiah Mensah “breached his bail conditions and absconded,” the tax payers’ money should not be used to pay the customers.

To him, NAM 1 should not be allowed to evade justice, following the collapse of his gold dealership firm.

His comments come after angry protesters who accused Government of leaving them to their fate burnt lorry tyres and blocked access to motorists on the main road to the MENZGOLD offices in Kumasi.

But Commenting on the issue, Mr Adongo who is also financial analyst said Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko “should shut up”, stressing that the private legal practitioner has no locus to be informing disgruntled Ghanaian Menzgold customers of issues that must officially be communicated by the Government.

“Have you heard he has been appointed a minister? All we know is he is a family member of the president. Is he the one to be telling us about these issues?” he quizzed in an interview with Mugabe Maase, host of Inside Politics on Radio XYZ 93.1.

Mr Adongo said the government should have reacted to the issue swiftly than allowing Gabby to make comments on a serious issue like the locked up funds of about 1.8 million customers of the defunct gold firm.

Mr Adongo alleged the posture of the government means people closer to the president invested at Menzgold, a reason behind Government’s reluctance to take action against the CEO of the company that is said to have defrauded millions of Ghanaians.
