Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said he does not feel safe in the country, adding that, he does not trust the Ghana police service either.
The lawmaker’s comments come after he was assaulted by a well-built man believed to be from the national security in Accra during Thursday’s Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Sam George was slapped in the face after series of gunshots at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station caused a commotion.
Reacting to his assault on Class FM on Thursday, 31 January 2019, he said he does not feel safe in the country.
Mr George said: “The police were present when the assault was going on and they did nothing. The police itself has also stated clearly that they are unaware of the people who were using their vehicle. So, if the police cannot protect their own armoured personnel and the police were armed and I was being assaulted and the police did not deem it necessary to intervene, I cannot trust that police service to do any kind of investigation.”
Asked if he felt safe, Mr George said: “I’ll not lie about this, I do not feel safe in this country today. The shock and disbelieve that men who were in National Security Council attire, heavily armed in Ghana police vehicle, the Police Service of Ghana says they don’t know who they are. These men attacked me. When I was being attacked, a media man said: ‘that’s an MP’ and the guy said and so what? And the Police of Ghana, over 20 of them, armed, stood by and watched. Just imagine that a police officer in U.S will attack a senator, that’s impossible.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu has directed the Director-General/Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to speed up investigations into the cause of the shooting.

U.S Senators behave themselves, they will not do what you did, so dont compare. your behaviour is deplorable you should have been beaten more. you deserve it, next time act with decorum and you will be respected. if you have approached the security with respect they will have returned same
A U.S. SENATOR WILL NOT GO ROUND POLLING STATIONS DOING WHAT YOU DID. I THINK YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GOT, MR. SAM GEORGE.
A US senator is more seeensible than you and will not behave in that stuuuuuuppid way you did. Sam George, you deserved more slaps because you are a nuiiiisance and nauseating character. Next time you will learn sense. Aboataaa
In US, senators don't talk from their a nus.
HE IS NOT ASHAMED TO COMPARE MP IN GHANA TO A US SENATOR. DOES HE THINK THEY ARE EQUALS? WE ARE STILL IN THE JUNGLE. HAS HE FORGOTTEN HIS EXCELLENCY DONALD TRUMP'S PHRASE: SITHOLE COUNTRY?
A U.S senator will not misbehave by raining insult on a U.S police officer. Sam George, don't try this again because you might not be lucky next time.
